Position Overview:
We are seeking passionate and dedicated Group Leaders to join our After School/Summer Camp Youth Development Center Programs. Group Leaders are responsible for the direct supervision, guidance, and safety of the youth in their care, ensuring a stimulating and engaging experience. As a Group Leader, you will serve as a role model for elementary and middle school-aged youth, leading activities that balance instruction, demonstration, practice, and implementation. This position is available at multiple locations across Queens, NY.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Management: Understand and enforce program expectations, policies, and protocols to maintain a safe and respectful environment, aligned with agency, school, and funder guidelines.
Curriculum Development: Create and implement effective, age-appropriate lesson plans and curricula that meet program goals.
Collaboration: Work closely with after-school staff on thematic projects, taking supervision and direction from the Educational Specialist, Director, and Assistant Directors.
Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with the Assistant Director and Director regarding schedule and classroom modifications, as well as behavioral or environmental concerns.
Role Modeling: Demonstrate and model appropriate communication and behavior with all program stakeholders, including participants, families, teachers, staff, and funders.
Academic Support: Assist participants with homework, providing them with the tools and resources needed to succeed academically.
Event Coordination: Help organize and implement special events, activities, and projects that enhance the student experience.
Safety & Supervision: Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, securing program spaces at the end of each session.
Positive Environment: Create a nurturing and supportive atmosphere that fosters learning and a sense of belonging for all participants.
Professional Development: Attend weekly staff meetings and complete required professional development hours as specified during hiring.
Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors to support the overall success of the program.
Qualifications:
Age: Must be at least 18 years old.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent, with enrollment in a related college program (Education, Human Development, Sociology, Social Work, Human Services).
Experience: Minimum of one year of experience leading and conducting activities for youth in after-school or camp settings.
Skills: Strong facilitation, conflict resolution, and group management abilities, particularly with youth. Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations.
Knowledge: Understanding of skill development strategies for working with middle and/or elementary school youth, including gender-based programming.
Personal Qualities: Organized, self-motivated, with a strong work ethic and team-oriented attitude. Effective time management skills.
Technical Skills: Proficient in basic computer applications with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Clearance: Must pass NYS DOH and DOE Fingerprinting Screening, NYS Clearance Review Background Check, three reference checks, and a physical exam with an updated TB test.
Status: Part-Time
Schedule: School Year: Monday - Friday, 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM
