JOB DESCRIPTION
The Artist in Residence Coordinator will provide support for the educational needs of all Champions After-School Arts Activities, which take place in approximately 130 New York City Public Schools. The activities include all performing and visual art genres. The Artist in Residence Coordinator will take a lead in implementing programs that are designed to help NYE instructors better understand the experiences offered and foster use of curriculum and lessons that can be implemented on site. This program is designed to support teaching artists in the field, be thought partners, offering training and mentorship and create safe spaces for our youth that are inclusive of diversity, equity, culture, creativity and social emotional learning competencies. NYE wants to create holistic learning experiences for all students and provide enrichment opportunities to help them grow as young artists and individuals.
The Artist in Residence Coordinator will also be responsible for project alignment to the overall mission of the art department. Artist in residence will provide a wide spectrum of artistic programs on site which involve collaboration between artists, hosting organizations, institutions, or communities. This will be a space to provide our teaching artists with resources, materials and knowledge to put their work into practice in a more pragmatic way with their students. Resources will come in the way of lessons and curricula that are in pursuit of a specific outcome related to a particular theme. With this holistic approach the AIR Coordinator will act as a direct support along with master teachers or experts in the field. Partnerships with artistic institutions will allow for a well-rounded experience where specialists can give and get professional training and turn-key their knowledge into after school art programs. Specialists should be able to study and teach as a result of this process. This will encourage collaboration with the NYE program, school, community and families to foster a space where interests, goals and creativity can be shared.
The Artist in Residence Coordinator will report to the Director of Art and assist and work with the Art Department staff.
