Job Summary
Battelle is currently seeking a Laboratory Senior Technician. This position is located in Columbus, OH. This position will provide technical support for performing standard and complex in-vitro assays to include, but not limited to PCR, next-gen sequencing, ELISA, and cell-based assays as well as other in-vitro related activities. This position may also provide support for performing animal studies and histopathology. This position is Monday through Friday with occasional overtime on nights and weekends; schedule may include holidays.
Responsibilities
- Work with biological/chemical materials in Biological Safety Level 2 (BSL-2)
- Supporting the conduct of all phases of experiments including but not limited to: rodent care, housing, handling; biospecimen collection and processing; biospecimen analyses such as ELISA, PCR, nucleic acid isolation, Next Generation Sequencing, and flow cytometry.
- Perform routine and complex histological procedures from tissue processing, embedding, microtomy (frozen and paraffin), H&E staining, special staining, and immunohistochemical (IHC) staining.
- Maintain mammalian cell cultures and production and characterization of viral and bacterial cultures.
- Contribute to the development and validation of equipment and biological assays.
- Understanding and performing reagent preparation and dilution including mathematical calculations involved.
- Research animal observations and husbandry. Administering treatment as directed by the vet staff. Perform various injections, blood collection, restraint, and euthanasia in accordance with protocols.
- Read SOPs, methods, facility guidelines, etc. used in workplace in a timely manner and adhere to these procedures.
Key Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher in biology, animal science, or related life science OR a high school diploma and equivalent experience and at least 3 years experience within laboratory environment.
- Applicants for this position must be a U.S. person, as defined by U.S. export control laws.
- Must have a high degree of manual dexterity and the ability to work wearing a respirator
- Adherence to facility, and biological laboratory safety requirements.
- Ability to be organized, multitask, communicate effectively within a team of diverse individuals
- Ability to change processes quickly, initiative.
- Must be willing to work in a biosafety level 2 (BSL2) environment and able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Respond appropriately to various alarms and potential emergency situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Molecular based techniques including PCR and Next-Gen sequencing experience.
