Job Summary
Battelle is currently seeking a Histology Senior Technician within Life Science Research Group. This position will serve our Columbus, OH location.
Battelle’s Life Science Research Center offers a staff of highly trained scientist and technicians, and state of the art facilities to support our clients’ toxicology, safety pharmacology, and inhalation research programs. Our multidisciplinary integrated approach to providing critical solutions for our pharmaceuticals, biotech, agrichemical, industrial, and government clients increases the speed of the development while maintaining quality and compliance.
A Histology Technician is responsible for tissue processing, embedding of tissues, routine and special slide staining, slide cover-slipping, microtomy, slide quality control, and tissue/block/slide inventory, etc.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine and complex histological procedures from tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, H&E staining, special staining, and immunohistochemical (IHC) staining.
- Perform both paraffin and frozen microtomy.
- Use computerized equipment and records data (LIMS).
- Perform routine maintenance and operation of various histology laboratory equipment.
- Use proper record keeping in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Understand and follow all pertinent Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Study Protocol requirements regarding all laboratory activities assigned.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
- Become Certified as a Histology Technician, HT (ASCP) or Histotechnologist, HTL (ASCP) within 12-24 months.
- Experience with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within histology field to include but not limited to tissue processing, tissue embedding, staining, microtomy, quality control of tissues, and tissue/slide inventory.
- Adherence to chemical agent, facility, and bio-facility safety requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to be organized, multitask, communicate effectively with a team, and desire to learn new skills.
- Able to work at a fast pace, in a high throughput lab, with loud machinery
- Sufficiently medically fit to do work in a lab wearing appropriate respiratory equipment and perform assigned duties.
- Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) in support of non-clinical studies.
- Demonstrated detail-orientation and strong organizational skills.
- Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work wearing a variety of respiratory protection.
- Must have good written and verbal communication skills and work well with others (team approach is required).
- Demonstrated knowledge in Excel, Word, Access, and SharePoint.
- Must be a US Citizen to perform duties of this role.
- Must be willing to work in a biosafety level 2 (BSL2) and/or 3 (BSL3) environment and able to wear appropriate respiratory protection.
- Must be willing to be immunized with licensed and FDA approved vaccines recommended for persons at risk to occupational exposure of biological agents.
- Must be willing to participate in periodic drug screening.
- Must be willing to work occasional evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
- Newly hired employees are subject to a 90-day introductory period, during which their performance is evaluated.
Additional requirements may be requested at a future date:
- Ability to obtain/maintain DoJ Security Risk Assessment (SRA) approval.
- Ability to obtain/maintain enrollment in CDC Select Agent Suitability Assessment Program.
- Ability to obtain/maintain certification in Chemical Personnel Reliability Program.
