Job Summary
Battelle’s Energy & Resilience Division is currently seeking a Reservoir Engineer (Entry-Level). This position is located in Columbus, OH.
As a Reservoir Engineer, the selected individual will work collaboratively to provide computational modeling and data analysis under the guidance of more senior geoscientists and engineers. The individual will support Battelle’s field demonstration and research projects dealing with CO2 geologic sequestration (CCS), hydrogen storage, and other low carbon technology programs. Responsibilities cover a large range of functions critical for this position including:
- Perform reservoir engineering analyses and modeling of fluid injection into saline aquifers and hydrocarbon fields.
- Perform reservoir engineering analyses and modeling of fluid injection into saline aquifers and hydrocarbon fields with applied reservoir engineering and modeling tools.
- Use advanced subsurface modeling workflows such as geomechanical and geochemical processes.
- Application of advanced numerical simulation techniques for predictive and optimization workflows.
- Identify data gaps and guiding recommendations on field data acquisition programs.
- Provide inputs to optimize storage site design and performance, including injection, and monitoring network configuration.
- Interact with clients, in both scientific and financial discussions relating to energy production and use. Provide technical expertise for a variety of petroleum geosciences and petroleum engineering applications.
- Provide inputs to Class VI injection permit applications and identifying project Area of Review.
- Support preparation of proposals for geologic characterization, design, construction, and operation for CCS facilities.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Strong background in computational subsurface flow and transport modeling (using codes such as IMEX/GEM, ECLIPSE, TOUGH2) and reservoir engineering fundamentals with demonstrated understanding of multiphase fluid dynamics in the subsurface.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to represent Battelle or its clients at conferences or public forums.
- Ability to make technically and economically sound recommendations with incomplete information essential.
- Collaborate with others in overall technical work.
- Self-motivated, organized, and exhibits leadership
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering or a closely related discipline and minimum 2 years of experience in Reservoir Engineering in the Oil & Gas Industry (field development) or CO2 storage and utilization (onsite subsurface) programs or master’s degree in related field.
- Direct experience with computational subsurface flow and transport modeling specific to CCUS and subsurface storage applications.
- Experience working on Department of Energy funded initiatives.
