Join MITRE's Soldier Capabilities department and work with engineers, scientists, military experts, and technology providers with a common vision of becoming the industry-leading innovator of combat and training capabilities for optimal sustained Soldier effectiveness, lethality, survivability, and readiness. Generally, project tasks fall beneath the following domains: research and analysis, requirements engineering, systems engineering, systems architecture, systems design, proof of concept development, web development, game / simulation development, and test development.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Specific tasks will vary with current project demands, but will likely include some / many of the following: researching and assisting with implementation of software prototypes to demonstrate proof of concept capabilities
Develop engineering products, white papers, and briefings, and deliver presentations to sponsors that summarize engineering research and analysis findings/recommendations.
Collaborate in a multi-disciplinary environment with MITRE peers, our government sponsor, industry, academia, and research institutions.
Apply system engineering skills to drive a holistic approach against Soldier effectiveness and readiness problem sets.
Apply cutting edge methods and tools to evaluate training and operations performance, constraints, and gaps (and propose changes).
Support the application of emerging technologies across multiple Army domains.
Develop proof of concepts to demonstrate best practice software integration patterns.
Develop of system and system of systems architectures, leveraging industry standard best practices and principles to iteratively develop architectures.
Basic Qualifications:
Typically, requires less than 1 year of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or relevant technical discipline; or combination of equivalent related education and work experience.
Knowledge and experience with systems engineering across the development lifecycle from concept inception through requirements definition, system development, integration, and verification test, evaluation, resources, and processes
Familiar with multiple Operating Systems including Windows and Linux
Experience with software development tools/environments
Experience with software planning tools such as Gitlab or Jira
Experience with multiple programming languages
Familiar with agile methodologies and tools
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, to convey concepts to various technical levels.
Ability to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance.
This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.
Preferred Qualifications:
Typically requires a Bachelors degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience, or an advanced degree with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Experience working within an agile development team
Experience with container technology such as Docker and Kubernetes
Experience with continuous integration / continuous delivery (CI/CD) technology such as GitLab CI, Jenkins, Travis CI, CircleCI
Experience with Configuration Management / Infrastructure as Code (IaC) frameworks (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef, and Terraform)
Experience with web development technologies such as HTML5/JavaScript, React, RESTful web service framework (e.g. Node.js, Spring Boot), relational database technology (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL), NoSQL database technology (e.g. MongoDB, Cassandra)
Experience with game engines such as Unity, Unreal Engine, and CRYENGINE
Experience with Cloud technologies (e.g., AWS and Azure)
Knowledge of Web applications development using HTML / JavaScript, React, Vue, Angular.
Experience using industry standard technologies for defining service interfaces (e.g., REST/Swagger, gRPC, and Protocol Buffers).
An active DoD Secret or higher clearance
