POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Electronics Technician (Avionics Specialist, Maintenance Controller)
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Superintendent, Production Superintendent, or Expeditor
WORK EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of MQ-1 experience required.
Level I - Four (4) years of Aviation Maintenance experience. Journeyman skill level.
Level II - Six (6) years of Aviation Maintenance experience. Two (2) years of leadership experience. Craftsman skill level.
Level III - Eight (8) years of Aviation Maintenance experience. Four (4) years of leadership and management experience. Expert and Supervisor skill level.
EDUCATION/TRAINING: Must have verifiable training records with MQ-1 training.
Level I - High School diploma. FAA Communications License or military/commercial aircraft maintenance.
Level II - High School diploma. FAA Communications License or equivalent military/commercial aircraft maintenance.
Level III - Associates of Applied Science degree or equivalent military/commercial aircraft maintenance experience. FAA Communications License or equivalent military/commercial experience.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
REQUIREMENTS: Current Secret Security Clearance. US Citizen or authorized immigration status. Required to travel.
Skills and Characteristics:
Excellent attention to detail. Very good communication skills both written and verbal. Excellent team member.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must meet company fitness for duty requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position Summary: Performs organizational level servicing, scheduled and unscheduled avionics and electronics maintenance on manned aircraft or unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). Inspects, analyzes, troubleshoots, and repairs aircraft avionics systems, subsystems, associated components, ground control stations (GCS), ground data terminals (GDT), fiber optic data lines, ground satellite terminals (GST) and test equipment. Knowledge of unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, multi-meters, dial indicators, micrometers, and other special tools and equipment.
Uses and interprets technical orders (TO's) and technical data and applies technical expertise and knowledge to identify, troubleshoot, and diagnose maintenance problems and determine appropriate corrective action.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Level I, II
Inspect analyze, troubleshoot, and maintain aircraft avionics systems such as instruments systems, flight control, communication, navigation, identification, and penetration aids.
Removes and installs avionics/electronic system components/cables (copper cables, fiber, etc.) and conducts functional and operational tests.
Isolate avionics failures using wiring diagrams and schematic diagrams.
Program/reprogram avionics/electronic warfare systems as required by applicable mission directives and TCTOs.
Perform aircrew and maintenance debriefs for avionic malfunctions.
Adjust, align, and rig avionics and electronic components.
Inspects and checks components for clearances, tolerances, proper installation, and operation.
Operates and inspect powered and non-powered aerospace ground equipment.
Comply with all COMSEC regulations and ensure the security of all cryptographic equipment and aircraft/GCS components at all times.
Complete cross training to assist with general phase inspection work cards.
Assist with organizational level servicing, scheduled, and unscheduled maintenance/inspections on aircraft and control stations systems, sub-systems, test stations, components, and related aerospace equipment.
Assist with launch, recovery, post- flight, pre-flight, and thru-flight inspections.
Assist with aircraft jacking, lifting, towing, and manual movement.
Review and completes aircraft maintenance forms entries and enter data into applicable aircraft maintenance information systems (MIS) ensure entries are accurate and complete.
Maintain and inventory aircraft alternate mission equipment (AME).
Perform routine FOD inspections.
Comply with technical data use policy.
Prepare material and Product Quality Deficiency Reports (PQDR) for faulty components as required.
Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
Select personnel may be required to monitor and report the locations of all assigned and transient aircraft and aerospace vehicles in addition to all other applicable Maintenance Operations Center (MOC) duties and responsibilities.
Select personnel may be required to monitor and coordinate sortie generation, aircraft status, maintenance production efforts, execution of operations and maintenance schedules while maintaining visibility of fleet health indicators.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Level III (Lead)
Leads teams performing avionics maintenance tasks and performs all tasks outlined for Level I and II.
Applies in-depth technical knowledge to analyze aircraft and equipment data and diagnose complex maintenance problems and determine corrective actions.
Implements and manages the Communication Security (COMSEC) program.
Implements and manages the Foreign Object Damage (FOD) program.
Performs Data Integrity Team (DIT) program analysis and corrective action.
Maintains individual currencies and certifications as required to provide effective leadership and training.
Inspects completed maintenance actions for aircraft grounding (Red X) discrepancies and maintenance tasks.
Performs In-Process-Inspections (IPI) on critical maintenance tasks.
Coordinates work schedules with appropriate manager to ensure optimal team balance.
Ensures work areas are clean and orderly.
Enforces technical data usage compliance.
Enforces safety standards to encourage a work environment of zero incidents, accidents, and injuries including no lost time accidents.
Reviews and submits material PQDRs.
Performs Weight & Balance (W&B) and assists with crash recover procedures as required.
Coordinates training opportunities with Supervisor/Instructor and performs/conducts, maintenance training.
Conducts orientation sessions with new employees at the operating site to include local safety, formal, and web-based briefings/training.
Coordinate with appropriate manager on assigned Electronic Technicians career development training plans and ensure assigned Electronic Technicians meet individual training plan benchmarks.
Monitor individual training progress and report to the appropriate manager. Recommend corrective actions to training shortfalls if required.
Evaluates and reports training performance to the Maintenance Superintendent (Production Superintendent) or designated manager.
Evaluates and reports training program effectiveness with focus on continuous improvement.
Handles difficult and sensitive situations, using sound, independent judgment within general policy and legal guidelines.
Develop good working relationships with resource providers and government representatives.
Prioritize workloads effectively to maintain schedules.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
