Summary This position is located in the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP), Office of the Assistant Secretary for Disability Employment Policy. This position is outside the bargaining unit. Responsibilities Major duties for the GS-13: Provides administrative assistance to ODEP staff and ODEP executives and performs special projects requiring a thorough understanding of administrative rules, regulations, procedures, guidelines, and policies. Reviews and analyzes a variety of reports, publications, and other incoming correspondence prepared both by DOL entities and from outside the DOL for the executives to ensure they are accurately briefed on all urgent and important matters related to the functions of the Office of the Assistant Secretary. Researches and assembles briefing materials to be used in meetings and conferences. Exercises control over the executive's calendar and schedule, with complete authority for commitments of time. Makes logistical arrangements for meetings and conferences, including notification of participants, dissemination of briefing materials, and gathering and summarizing background information when needed. Arranges and manages official meetings with high-level executives within and outside ODEP, staff meetings, official commitments, and invitations, out-of-town travel, and itineraries for the executives and accompanying staff. Responsible for a wide variety of analytical and administrative projects related to the program administered under the executives. They perform complex special projects for the executives that require initiative, tact, and resourcefulness. Receives goods and services, ensuring accuracy and condition. Reconciles any discrepancies with vendor personnel. Reconciles original receipts or packing slips with the monthly financial statement and resolves any discrepancies. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-12 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience required for this positions is defines as: Providing administrative support and assistance to an office and/or department. Maintaining calendar and travel for supervisory and/or program officers. Managing official meetings for high-level executives within and outside the organization. Preparing briefing materials, composing letters and memorandums for senior and/or executive staff. Responding to congressional inquiries and Analyzing operational trends, compiling data and developing a wide variety of reports for analysis by senior management. If the duty location is within the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, the position will be included in the Local 12, AFGE bargaining unit. If the duty location is outside the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, the position will be included in the NCFLL bargaining unit.
