Job Description:
Looking to strengthen your current skill set as a Senior Environmental Engineer? Do you excel at developing solutions to complex environmental challenges? We are hiring motivated individuals who enjoy working on large Rail and Transit projects in the NY/NJ area. In this role, you will lead the collection of design- and construction-phase data to track sustainability performance, including metrics such as embodied carbon, waste diversion rates, and energy efficiency.
Program background
The Gateway Program is the most urgent infrastructure program in the country – a comprehensive set of rail investments that will improve commuter and intercity services, add needed resiliency and, in its later stages, create new capacity between Newark, New Jersey and New York City, the busiest section of the Northeast Corridor (NEC). The first phase of the Gateway Program includes the Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP), which includes the construction of a new two-track tunnel under the Hudson River connecting to Penn Station New York as well as the full rehabilitation of the existing 110-year-old North River Tunnel. The Gateway Development Commission (GDC), established through bi-state legislation, is responsible for the financing and development of the Hudson Tunnel Project.
As a tri-venture partner with Parsons, Arcadis, and Mace (MPA) is the Delivery Partners (DP)to provide advice, leadership, and support to GDC for the development and implementation of HTP. This is a master service with task order contracts for a 15-year contract encompassing a broad range of strategic advisory services, project management, design management, construction management, stakeholder coordination, federal compliance, operations support, office administration, and related services.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the collection of design- and construction-phase data to track sustainability performance, including metrics such as embodied carbon, waste diversion rates, and energy efficiency.
- Develop and manage comprehensive Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports, and dashboards for internal leadership and external stakeholders, including contributions to ESG reporting frameworks (e.g., GRI, CDP).
- Analyze sustainability data to provide actionable insights and inform progress toward project sustainability goals.
- Collaborate with the design team to document sustainability measures for Envision credits and compliance
- Partner with construction contractors to integrate sustainability requirements into construction practices and documentation.
- Review construction submittals for compliance with Envision and other sustainability requirements, ensuring timely documentation for certification purposes
- Coordinate the submission of design and construction documentation to the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) for verification.
- Collaborate with external partners, including contractors and sustainability consultants, to ensure alignment on sustainability goals.
Qualifications:
- 5 to 8+ years experience and Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Planning/Policy, or related field; Master's degree in Environmental Science or Sustainability preferred.
- LEED and ENV SP credentials are highly preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in data collection, analysis, and KPI reporting for large-scale projects.
- Familiarity with sustainability reporting frameworks such as Envision, LEED, GRI and CDP.
- Strong technical knowledge of sustainability standards and practices in the design and construction of infrastructure projects.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and project management skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and manage stakeholder expectations.
- Experience in environmental engineering, sustainability, or related roles, preferably in infrastructure projects (especially with embodied carbon assessment.)

Salary Range:
