Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Assistant Safety Director to join our team! In this role you will get to work on the premier Infrastructure project in the US!
Program background
The Gateway Program is the most urgent infrastructure program in the country – a comprehensive set of rail investments that will improve commuter and intercity services, add needed resiliency and, in its later stages, create new capacity between Newark, New Jersey and New York City, the busiest section of the Northeast Corridor (NEC). The first phase of the Gateway Program includes the Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP), which includes the construction of a new two-track tunnel under the Hudson River connecting to Penn Station New York as well as the full rehabilitation of the existing 110-year-old North River Tunnel. The Gateway Development Commission (GDC), established through bi-state legislation, is responsible for the financing and development of the Hudson Tunnel Project.
As a tri-venture partner with Parsons, Arcadis, and Mace (MPA) is the Delivery Partners (DP)to provide advice, leadership, and support to GDC for the development and implementation of HTP. This is a master service with task order contracts for a 15-year contract encompassing a broad range of strategic advisory services, project management, design management, construction management, stakeholder coordination, federal compliance, operations support, office administration, and related services.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Assist the Safety Director in developing and implementing safety policies, procedures, and programs specific to tunnel construction projects.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential safety hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Coordinate safety training programs for employees and subcontractors to promote a culture of safety awareness and compliance.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and develop corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to address safety concerns and create a safe working environment.
- Keep abreast of industry best practices, safety standards, and regulatory requirements to ensure the project meets or exceeds safety expectations.
- Prepare safety reports, conduct safety meetings, and participate in safety committees to promote continuous improvement in safety performance.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety management, preferably in tunnel construction.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, ANSI standards, and other relevant safety guidelines.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
What Desired Skills You'll Bring:
- Professional certifications such as CSP, CHST, or equivalent are highly desirable.
- Tunnel experience a plus

Salary Range:
