Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsibilities
The Network Edge Technology team is looking for a Senior Technologist to support the communication transmission equipment at the Nevada National Security Site.
Key Responsibilities
Draw upon a broad background in telecommunications architecting radio frequency, digital, microwave, and signal processing electronics in order to flow down system requirements to the electronics module and component level.
Develop and install architectures to meet requirements, lead the development of these modules, and provide technical management.
Communicate with internal personnel, outside service personnel, equipment vendors and other government agencies to coordinate service requests, work orders, equipment evaluations, technical advice, and issues regarding radio services.
Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of network configurations and cabling layouts, hardware equipment, etc.
Survey outdoor cabling infrastructure, analyze engineering drawings, and design pathways to deliver analog and digital services between buildings.
Plan and conduct work package and safety procedures reviews; ensuring work processes align with company and industry standards.
Administer office work package program, conducts work package reviews and training with telecommunication team members.
Perform procurement task; conducts evaluations and make recommendations regarding the purchase of new equipment and materials.
Communicate with company procurement representatives and vendors to complete purchase requirements for monthly or new services and maintain inventory of equipment and parts.
Prepare administrative and technical documents as required for maintenance, operations, or testing.
Documentation and maintaining thorough records of technical issues, solutions, and user interactions into trouble ticket systems (ServiceNow and Maximo).
Perform facility management duties, oversees all aspects of building functions and guarantees the safety and functionality of telecommunication facilities. Duties include running routine safety inspections, corresponding with contractors, planning maintenance work, maintaining records, and access control.
Administer work center light vehicle fleet. Support vehicle management, preventive, and corrective maintenance, fuel credit cards, and inspection process. Works with motor pool management and documenting for recharge billing services.
May coordinate with other departments within the company/labs and with outside vendors.
Support operations at Nuclear or High Hazard (HH) facilities to maintain a condition and configuration to accept and support programs and projects.
Mentor less experienced individuals in specific discipline.
May assist in managing the NSSS collection of acoustic and other types of sensors (geophones, seismometers, infrasound), and associated equipment, including data recorders, batteries, cables, etc. Work includes maintaining and deploying sensors and associated equipment; performing quality checks on sensor arrays; facilitating data transfers; documenting and geo-locating array positions, and other diagnostic support as required. Work will include assisting NNSS collaborators, including the National Laboratories and others, in deploying sensor networks, and other data collections. Work will take place at the NNSS and other locations.
Perform other duties assigned by Management.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience:
Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 5 years' progressive related experience,orHigh School diploma, plus 7 years' progressive related experience.
Knowledge of copper and fiber cable color codes.
Knowledge of low voltage circuit concepts.
Experience deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting Land Mobile Radio (LMR), radio trunking, microwave networks (Cielo Networks preferred), surveillance cameras, and supporting electronic systems and equipment.
Experience with wired and wireless communications and public address systems for public safety, indoor and outdoor venues.
Preferred familiarity with radio communication theory (frequency bands, AM, FM, P25, deviation, sensitivity, trunking).
Preferred knowledge of electronics theory, circuit design, duplexer's, combiners, operation, maintenance, and repair of various types of communications and electronic equipment.
Preferred knowledge of grounding and bonding copper infrastructure.
Preferred knowledge of horizontal and backbone cabling pathway systems.
The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).
Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change).
Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 (http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?SID=14b1c770db022992d237769fbe9fc519&mc=true&node=se10.4.707 14&rgn=div8) , "Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites," will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Hourly salary range for this position is:$32.93 - $49.40.
Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
