Summary:
Under the general direction of the VP of Engineering, the Test Lab Manager shall manage test lab technicians/personnel, equipment, and schedules directly related to development tests, qualification test and production test activities for metals and non-metallic. The test lab manager shall also coordinate and support all external testing activities.
The test lab manager shall convey management instructions; assigns work and provides technical direction to assure laboratory efficiency and service to engineering and shops. Establishes laboratory techniques, processes and assists engineering personnel in the development, testing and evaluation of Company products.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Instructs assigned Laboratory Technicians in the proper performance of work responsibility; assists in the development and refinement of laboratory methods, practices and techniques; interprets and clarifies complex engineering blueprints, sketches, test specifications and standards. Coordinates and resolves product development, testing and evaluation problems between Engineering, Metals and Non-Metallic Laboratory, Purchasing, Shops and vendors.
· Demonstrates proper laboratory techniques and instructs employees in the performance of various physical and chemical tests; instructs in the use of specialized instrumentation, test apparatus and equipment; suggests technique improvements and refinements; instructions in reduction of test data and preparation of test reports, summaries, charts, and graphs. Give guidance and direction to shop personnel as required.
· Establishes and maintains necessary report systems, records and files; prepares special and recurring reports and summaries for engineering and management review. Prepares intra-plant correspondence as required. Participates in project meetings, conferences, and "white board" meetings.
· Administratively assists VP of Engineering by maintaining attendance records, recording of labor charges, time, material equipment and supplies usage; participates in the computation of testing costs; and otherwise aids in the pricing and preparation of product, engineering laboratory, service, proposals and quotations.
