Electromagnetic Effects (EME) Engineering is responsible for engineering analysis and tasks in the Military and Commercial Aircraft business area. Provides ongoing support for aircraft development and systems modifications including EME requirements definition, design support, integration, and test. Supports broad EME design support areas such as lightning, grounding, bonding, shielding, EMI, EMC, EMP, antenna analyses, cosite and link margin, HIRF, HERF/HERP/HERO, and other aspects of EME as defined by MIL-STD-464. The Senior Specialist, Electromagnetic Effects will support EME Analysis, EME Testing, bid & proposals for EME content, mentor new hires, facilitate communications to/from the Aero Engineering team, and adhere to general L3Harris company policies and procedures in representation of the EME group.
Essential Functions:
Provide EME design support areas such as lightning, grounding, bonding, shielding, EMI, EMC, EMP, antenna analyses, cosite and link margin, HIRF, HERF/HERP/HERO, and other aspects of EME as defined by MIL-STD-464.
Coordinate with teams of electrical & mechanical engineering Subject Matter Experts developing and coordinating system functionality and performance.
Foster and grow a network of upstream and downstream customers to ensure EME activities increase engineering efficiencies and decrease production cost.
Coordinate with the Certification Authority on EME activities ahead of and during program execution
Organize and develop the EME technical solution and approach for technical proposals.
Provide the EME expertise to assist with technical and cost proposal writing teams providing technical solutions, development plans, technical write-ups, cost and schedule estimates and the documentation of the basis of estimate.
Manage various technical customer suppliers and sub-contractors' technical performance, with the expectation of acting independently on technical matters.
Request IRaD funding to evaluate new technologies, improve processes and methodologies, develop concepts and ideas to increase the productivity of the electrical engineering department.
Effectively communicate strategic staffing needs/requirements/status to upper management
Foster and develop a deep pool of subject matter expertise.
Evaluate and continuously improve established L3Harris Technical Process Specifications and related design practices and methodologies.
Establish the strategic road map for EME while providing the tactical expertise from your teams of engineering SMEs.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret (SCI) security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
Working knowledge of EME modeling tools such as FEKO, HFSS, Antenna Magus, CST Studio Compliance for EME per MIL-STD-464 and MIL-STD-461/RTCA DO-160.
Should have knowledge of environmental and electromagnetic equipment qualification requirements and how to mitigate issues.
Should have knowledge of common, industry-wide EME design practices.
Must be able to travel to and from flight line and work in aircraft hangar environments (some positions will require the ability to board/exit aircraft)
Must be willing to travel to different sites as needed.
Must have good computer skills including proficency with Microsoft Office suite is required.
Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills; ability to generate and present technical packages.
Preferred Additional Skills:
Familiarity with FAA (Part 23 or 25) or military aircraft airworthiness design approach, certification process, and requirements
Systems requirements development, integration, verification, and validation experience
Results-oriented, empowering leader with direct experience exceling in a matrixed environment.
Experience running total lifecycle of programs including proposals, bids, planning, assessing/managing risk, and execution.
Experience with liaison activities to answer on-the-spot questions for manufacturing and production groups and coordinate engineering design updates.
Interpersonal skills: Engaging communicator, strong collaboration, patience, and open minded
