THOR Solutions, LLC is actively seeking a highly skilled Site Reliability Engineer/Project Manager to lead a program at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Dahlgren Integrated Warfare Systems Lab (IWSL), driving initiatives that enhance system resilience and reliability through innovative engineering practices. An ideal candidate will have both technical and managerial experience with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Chaos Engineering, and with the U.S. Navy's AEGIS combat system.
Typical Responsibilities:
Design and implement a robust chaos engineering framework aimed at improving the resilience and reliability of US Navy systems. Establish best practices for chaos experiments and ensure their integration into the development lifecycle.
Lead the operational integration of artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML)-driven analytical tools within existing systems, including the initial testing and validation phases. Collaborate with data scientists and engineers to ensure effective tool implementation and optimization.
Create and execute comprehensive testing scenarios to evaluate system performance and reliability under a variety of conditions. Ensure that testing processes align with industry standards and best practices for reliability engineering.
Apply hands-on knowledge of chaos engineering principles by designing and executing chaos experiments in production-like environments. Analyze the outcomes of chaos experiments to identify system weaknesses and recommend improvements.
Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement within cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment with program objectives. Lead and mentor junior engineers and team members in chaos engineering principles, reliability engineering, and best practices in software development.
Lead overall program execution, ensuring completion of tasking and contractual requirements as efficiently and effectively as possible.
Develop and adhere to delivery schedules and Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms) to meet customer deliverables and reporting requirements. Monitor progress and performance against these plans.
Develop technical reports in accordance with the Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL), ensuring timely and accurate documentation of findings and progress. Provide clear and actionable insights based on test results to inform stakeholders and drive decision-making.
Track program financial data, manage program invoicing and funding, and generate reports. Generate and adhere to budgets. Comply with contractual financial requirements.
Continually interface with Government customers and contractor teammates on a working level to ensure quality and expectations are met, and proper procedures are followed.
Location: Onsite at the THOR office in Virginia Beach, VA. Some local remote flexibility may be possible.
Travel: Periodic travel to Riverdale, MD for project reviews. Limited travel to other CONUS THOR sites may be required.
Typical Physical Activity: Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion.
Security Clearance Eligibility Required:?This position requires a DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate must either already possess an active or interim Secret security clearance (highly preferred); OR be eligible for a Secret security clearance prior to start.
Typical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:?
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Higher level degree and/or relevant professional certifications are preferred.
At least seven (7) years total of relevant professional experience, including:
Five (5) years of experience with reliability engineering or site reliability engineering (SRE).
Five (5) years of experience with program or project management.
Ideal experience will have been obtained in a US Navy/DoD environment.
Experience with the US Navy's AEGIS combat system is highly preferred.
Ideal technical experience includes:
Strong proficiency in Linux/Unix systems and programming languages such as Python and JavaScript.
Hands-on experience with chaos engineering principles and practices, including the design and execution of chaos experiments in production-like environments.
Expertise in distributed systems and networking fundamentals.
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
Familiarity with blockchain technologies and their applications in secure, distributed systems.
Experience with DevOps practices and tools for continuous integration and deployment.
Ideal program/project management experience includes:
Operating a portfolio of Navy, DOD, DHS, or other Federal technical or business services programs.
Managing and growing all aspects of a business unit successfully, including customers, people, programs, financials, and new business.
Working and negotiating with customers to secure program portfolio growth through modifications, re-competes, takeaways, and new business.
Experience leading a geographically distributed workforce supporting a diverse set of technical requirements in multiple disciplines and markets.
Developing project schedules, performing resource planning, and monitoring and tracking tasks and expenditures against baseline budgets.
Interacting with Government customers and contractor/subcontractor peers to maintain smooth operation of programs/contracts.
Excellent leadership and collaboration skills to engage effectively with direct reports, peers, customers, and other stakeholders.
Proficient with common productivity software.
Strong communications skills.
