MITRE's Army Program Division is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with significant experience in the design and development of software application user interfaces to be part of a team architecting and developing software systems in support of Army Electronic Warfare and Signals Intelligence. The Army Intelligence and Sensors Department (N212) supports a geographically dispersed set of Sponsors largely based in Aberdeen, MD and the DC areas but with a presence in Colorado Springs, CO and Huntsville, AL. Our mission is to design, deliver and sustain leading edge capabilities focused on intelligence systems, sensors and non-kinetic effects to ensure Army soldiers are equipped with the technology and actionable battlefield intelligence to enable dominance.
The ideal candidate is a creative problem-solver who can understand and interpret user needs, bridge between design and engineering, and implement the latest technologies to achieve the optimal user experience. They have a passion for architecting, developing, and deploying cutting edge user interface and web applications and have a curious mind with a lean-forward attitude on innovations in software and web development.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Design, engineer, analyze, and develop software systems as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Develop proof-of-concepts and prototypes of easy-to-navigate user interfaces (UI).
Engage with users and government sponsors to define the problem space and vision to determine capabilities, priorities, road maps, transformation plans and next steps.
Basic Qualifications:
Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a similar degree.
Expert in languages such as Python, React.js, Vue.js, NodeJS, C/C++, Java, or .NET technologies.
Expertise in software development and systems engineering (SE) including modern software development processes and practices including agile development methods (e.g., DevSecOps).
Must be able to obtain and maintain a US government clearance (e.g., DoD Top Secret).
This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.
Preferred Qualifications:
Significant experience with end-to-end system lifecycle development, design, testing, integration, and deployment of operational systems.
Experience delivering production software to commercial or defense industry customers
Experience using Agile processes and tools.
Experience working in Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) environments.
Experience working with Docker or similar technology.
Able to brief and tactfully engage with senior customers/sponsors (e.g. government personnel, vendor senior staff).
Experience in Microservices and APIs to solve complex connectivity challenges, using RESTful APIs.
Effective communication and collaboration skills.
