The Advanced Integrated Surface Sensors (AISS) team at Raytheon's Advanced Technology Strategic Business Unit specializes in cutting-edge integrated systems, next-generation sensors, microelectronics, and advanced materials. Our focus extends to innovative technologies in maritime applications and the seamless transition of these advancements into practical solutions.
We are seeking a temporary employee that will support Raytheon Advanced Technology/AISS contract R&D programs primarily through investigation of non-acoustic sensor technologies that span the electromagnetic spectrum. The successful candidate will perform Engineering Physics tasks related to Sensor System/Architecture Requirements Definition, Design and Analysis, Sensor Systems Engineering Studies/Trades to determine solutions to technical issues, Algorithm Development, and Sensor Data Collection and Analysis. This position located in Sterling, VA (Dulles Hub).
What You Will Do
Interact with customer and end-user representatives in developing sensor/system requirements and project work plans, and presenting analysis results.
Mentor staff in the areas of remote sensing with non-acoustic sensors, sensor modeling and simulation, statistical detection & estimation theory and signal/image processing & analysis.
Lead development of novel signal processing approaches for remote sensing systems.
Initiate the design, development, execution and implementation of original scientific research, including modeling and simulation, data analysis and operational assessment.
Coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts.
Qualifications You Must Have
Experience generating detection/signal processing algorithms for non-acoustic sensors, especially in maritime environments.
Experience using advanced modeling and simulation techniques to characterize Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) sensor performance in cluttered environments.
Experience using operations research analyses for evaluating ASW system-of-systems performance.
Experience working with Undersea Security Programs, Office of Naval Research R&D Programs and the Intelligence Community.
Typically requires: An Advanced Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 15 years prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer
Ph.D. in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related discipline.
Extensive expensive in the following areas: ocean physics, geophysics, operations analysis, RF hardware covering areas from devices to antennas, radar, EO/IR, low light level imagers, passive microwave & mm wave imagers, laser-based sensors, and chem/bio/radiological sensors.
Broad understanding of Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance systems.
National-level technical expert recognized by DoD and Intelligence Community customers.
Active TS/SCI Clearance (U.S. Citizenship status is required).

Hybrid: Employees who are working in Hybrid roles will work regularly both onsite and offsite. Ratio of time working onsite will be determined in partnership with your leader.
This is a temporary position of an undetermined length.
