Roles & Responsibilities:
MITRE is seeking a Lead Weapon System and Operational Technologies Cybersecurity Engineer to work with the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Joint Staff, and Service/Agency program offices to define necessary DoD policies, system security engineering practices, techniques, and technologies to improve the cyber survivability of mission-critical weapon systems and defense critical infrastructure. Our goal is to enhance the cyber resilience and mission assurance of critical DoD missions through improving system performance in a cyber contested environment.
You will work with Senior Leadership in the Office of the Security of Defense and stakeholders across multiple DoD Components and Intelligence agencies to lower the cyber risk to missions. This will include informing cyber policies and shaping requirements and architectures through improved Systems Security Engineering and enhanced Acquisition practices for critical DoD programs.
This is an exciting opportunity to explore topics of emerging national security importance, such as infrastructure resilience, strategic deterrence, contested logistics, and next generation command and control architectures.
This position requires significant (up to 50%) time in-person in classified spaces, on site at MITRE and/or at government facilities in the Washington DC area.
Responsibilities include:
Inform DoD policy for acquisition programs to enhance Cyber Resiliency and mission assurance into program acquisition lifecycles.
Assess cyber resiliency, cyber risk to mission, and cyber posture of mission-relevant information technology and Operational Technology (OT) assets and systems, to include analysis of requirements, architectures, testing, acquisition, and sustainment.
Lead cross-functional teams to evaluate, prioritize, and mitigate cyber risks to DoD programs, systems, and missions.
Basic Qualifications:
Ability to maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance with access to Secure Compartmented Information (TS/SCI).
Bachelor's Degree in cybersecurity, engineering, computer science, or related field
Proficiency and strength in verbal, written, presentation, and communications skills
Experience with the cybersecurity requirements, architecture designs, acquisition programs, and/or science and technology efforts, with emphasis in one or more of the following mission areas: cyber resiliency, cyber survivability, defensive cyberspace operations, vulnerability assessments, systems security engineering, cyber tabletop exercises, wargaming, cyber assessments
A desire to continually learn and master new concepts and technologies
Ability to communicate highly technical issues to a wide variety of partner audiences, including senior leaders
Experience with the Defense Acquisition System, as well as its relationship to the Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System and Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution
This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.
Preferred Qualifications:
Current/active DoD Secret or higher clearance, with the ability to maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance with access to TS/SCI.
Master's degree in engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity or similar field and 10 years of experience
Experience implementing or advising cybersecurity controls, conducting cyber defense on industrial control systems and supervisory control and data acquisition assets, or other operational technologies
Experience conducting cyber assessments and/or cyber tabletop exercises to characterize cyber risks and recommend cyber risk reduction strategies
Experience planning, organizing, and executing on-network cyber exercises (e.g., red vs. blue events, capture the flag).
