PRIMARY PURPOSE : To provide property, liability and/or workers' compensation underwriting and related services for accounts maintaining underwriting quality, proper rating classifications and targeted loss ratios for risks associated with liability, property, and/or workers' compensation coverage(s) for new pool prospects and renewals for existing pool and commercial accounts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides underwriting (property, liability and/or workers' compensation) and related services and oversight to assigned customers within delegated authority; seeks approval for exceptions.
Reviews contract wording for clients to assess compliance with requirements for insurance coverage(s), limits, certificates of insurance, additional insured status and waivers of subrogation as well as make recommendations on hold harmless/indemnity clauses.
Provides technical advice and assistance to Sedgwick colleagues and clients regarding coverage interpretations, policy and endorsement provisions, and underwriting acceptability.
Acts as a liaison with other departments and partners including claims, loss control, and accounting departments as well as external contacts including reinsurers, marketers, and members.
Participates in and leads key projects that impact underwriting and other related departments.
Maintains and updates underwriting guideline & policy manuals for self-insured pools.
Performs field activities such as attending client board meetings and marketing/sales meetings; assists in conducting educational clinics for pool members or agents and making inspection tours as needed and approved.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Licensing
Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university preferred. Property casualty insurance agent license or obtain within 6 months. Valid driver's license required. Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), and/or Certified Risk Manager (CRM) designations preferred.
Experience
Six (6) years of property/casualty and/or workers' compensation underwriting experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Underwriting experience with public entity pools and their respective expsoures and coverages preferred.
Skills & Knowledge
Understanding of the rating methodology of workers' compensation, property, and liability insurance coverage(s)
Solid math skills including the ability to calculate figures accurately and efficiently
Analytical and interpretive skills with strong attention to detail
Ability to reason, solve practical problems, and interpret a variety of information and instructions
Ability to lead projects and team initiatives
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of the organization and external customers
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills
PC literate, including Microsoft Office and other system products
Strong organizational skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to create and complete comprehensive, accurate and constructive written reports
Ability to work in a team environment
