The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).
JOB SUMMARY :
Provides basic administrative and clinical assistance within the nursing department allowing for the transition from student to employee offering educational training leading to an opportunity to become a certified correctional medication aide.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (may include) :
Attends online medication aide college courses (140 hours).
Completes medication aide course work and clinical activities/rotations (typical schedule will be 4 hours online training at the unit and 4 hours of on-the-job training daily).
Operates personal computers to enter and assimilate data, generate reports, and draft routine correspondence.
Performs facility administrative support tasks including but not limited to filing, mail functions, faxing, and typing correspondence.
Answers phone calls and adjudicates each call appropriately.
Assists with patient activities and care as assigned by the nurse manager/designee as indicated by the patient's plan of care. Maintains patient care areas with appropriate supplies.
Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records.
Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
Performs related duties as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT :
Work environment is located in clean and safe medical facility within the confines of a prison, jail or juvenile detention center.
Conditions such as noise, odors, cramped work space and/or fumes could sometimes cause discomfort.
Moderate to extreme physical effort may be required such as walking, standing, and lifting materials, equipment, objects, and/or patients.
Lifting may be heavy and awkward, over 50lbs.
Vision, hearing, talking, and sense of touch abilities must be adequate enough to enable one to quickly and accurately perform tasks such as: reading small print, reading from monitoring equipment, defining details, sending and receiving clear and accurate verbal communication.
Frequent periods of concentrated or focused attention will be needed to interpret visual, auditory, and sensory inputs.
Alertness and careful attention to detail will be required to avoid injury.
May be assigned to more than one facility.
May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, radiation, chemotherapeutic agents, and disoriented or combative patients.
May be required to be on standby and work extended or alternate shifts in situations deemed necessary by Nurse Manager.
Able to work under stress and be emotionally capable of coping with complex and/or changing activities.

Located within the confines of a prison, jail, or juvenile detention center. Security clearance is required; pre-employment drug testing is also required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE :
High school diploma or equivalent.
Starting hourly rate is $16.25. Will increase upon completion of program .
