Description
Alaska Northstar Resources is now seeking a qualified Software Engineering Manager to join our team. This is a remote position that is responsible for managing and supporting the software engineering function in the research, design, and development of computer software systems, in conjunction with hardware product development applying principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis supporting the Army's Selection Board System (ASBS).
Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Assigns, coordinates, and reviews work of software engineers across Agile teams.
Designs programs considering factors, such as computer storage capacity and speed, extent of peripheral equipment, and intended use of output data.
Reviews test runs on computer to assure correctly coded programs and input data.
Directs revision of existing programs to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new requirements.
Compiles documentation of program development and subsequent revisions.
Prescribes standards for terms and symbols used to simplify interpretation of programs.
Conducts and manages software development activities via modern tooling to include Git (and Git clients) and Integrated Development Environments (IDEs).
Manages development staff to include reviewing code submissions and approving Pull Requests to the software baseline. Administers personnel functions including recruiting, review and approval of job descriptions and salary classifications, and selection and placement of personnel.
May train subordinates in software design and program coding. Prepares records and reports for top management.
Requirements
Minimum Candidate Requirements
Candidate must have Bachelor's Degree
Candidate must have active DoD Secret clearance or higher
Candidate must be US Citizen
Candidate must have Security+ CE or other applicable 8570 IAT Level II Certification
Candidate must have 12+ years experience with the following:
Performing large scale application development/ application architecture design.
Demonstrated knowledge of DOD security practices with an in depth knowledge of STIG and other security practices.
Experience with MS SQL, Java, GraphQL, and scripting languages.
Must have the ability to demonstrate all aspects of the Software Development processes.
Will be used to mentor less experienced developers and monitor and support he automated testing of the application. Must be a great communicator.
Proximity to Fort Knox KY is important.
Preferred
Cloud Computing, DEV/OPS Pipeline experience with DISA STIG's, experience with HP Fortify
CSSLP Cert preferred
College degree in STEM discipline, computer science, computer engineering, software engineering preferred.
Experience in managing software development of highly complex projects across multiple Agile teams.
Experience working in Agile Software Development projects at high velocity of development and release.
Experience managing team of remote developers.
Ability to supervise more junior software developers and provide feedback and mentoring to improve code quality.
Expertise in the usage of Git via various Git clients to include management of software baseline(s).
Experience in managing a team of developers working in a Scrum Agile SDLC to include reviewing code and providing feedback as necessary.
Experience in interacting with Scrum Agile teams to include taking direction from Product Owners and assisting in backlog grooming.
Experience in creating User Stories in the Scrum Agile SDLC.
Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
Knowledge of application servers/Java Runtimes such as JBOSS and Tomcat.
Knowledge of databases and how they interact with Java code.
Work Environment
Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Occasional business travel may be required. Only requested and approved expenses will be covered by ANR.

Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
