Description
SAIC is looking for an engineering or physical sciences Student Intern to assist in operating and maintaining fixed and mobile laboratories supporting foreign material exploitation (FME) at a customer location on Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, AL. SAIC operates multi-disciplined FME labs at this location that provide support to the analysis of missile system components from man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS), short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs), surface-to-air missiles (SAMs), transporter erector launchers (TELs), decoys, and camouflage. The intern will have an opportunity to rotate between the Materials, Optics, Electronics, Controls, and Radio Frequency (RF) labs. The candidate will support other engineers and scientists in the analysis and development of calibration methods for sensors that make measurements ranging from Ultraviolet to Radio Frequencies. Projects will be determined at the discretion of mentor, and may include work related to: image processing development; controls development and systems integration; opto-mechanical design and fabrication; optical layout, assembly, and alignment; optical measurements of sources and sensors; optical instrumentation development; lasers; electrical test system design, development, and assembly; 3D printing and applications, etc. Relevant skills and experience can include microscopy, interferometry, spectroscopy, radiometry, programming, embedded systems development, mechanical design and analysis, electrical instrumentation setup and operation, data science, and others.
Qualifications
Must be enrolled and in good standing with a university program pursuing a BS degree in Engineering, Physics, Optical Sciences or other relevant technical areas, and must have completed at least 1 year of study towards the degree
Overall GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher
Be available to work 40 hours a week for the summer of 2025
The candidate may support collection of data in the lab or the field
U.S. citizenship and a Secret security clearance required to start the internship. Must be able/willing to obtain a TS/SCI and Poly clearance.
Experience using NI LabView, MATLAB, Python, and C/C++ or another programming language
Desired Qualifications:
Ability to write and prepare test reports
Must be able to support collection of data in the lab or the field
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, ...)
