Job Summary
We are currently seeking a Quality Inspector to support our National Security Business Unit, where Battelle is involved in the design, development, prototyping, and manufacturing of defense related items. This position is located in Columbus, Ohio .
The Quality Inspector reports to the Quality Manager, Performance Excellence and is primarily responsible to: perform visual inspection of circuit card assemblies to IPC-610 requirements; perform incoming and outgoing inspection of metallic mesh coatings for de-ice/de-fog and EMI shielding products; reviews documentation for accuracy; audits work processes; supports continual improvement.
Responsibilities
Performs visual inspection of printed circuit board assemblies to the IPC-610 standard/J-STD-001.
Perform detailed visual inspections of metallic mesh coatings using a microscope and other instruments while wearing cleanroom gown apparel.
Reviews documentation associated with production deliverables to verify accuracy and completeness prior to delivery
Unpacks materials and stages them for production and packages materials at the end of production in preparation for shipment
Performs audits of the production process to verify procedures and protocols are being followed
Documents observations and defects identified during inspections and communicates them to technical staff. Is encouraged to make recommendations to resolve discrepancies
Participates in root cause analysis meetings as a member of the cross functional team to help identify process or product issues
May contribute to client reports or prepare client reports under close supervision
May support other inspection and test activities associated with circuit card assembly including running in circuit testing or automated optical inspection.
Ensures that inspected products meet specifications and quality control requirements.
Tracks calibration and maintenance of instruments in labs.
Provides limited mentoring on specific aspects of quality inspection.
Key Qualifications
Associates degree in engineering or related technical field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in a related field
Current IPC-A-610 Certification
Minimum of 3 years' experience building and/or inspecting Circuit Cards to IPC-A-610
Demonstrated ability to interpret and understand engineering drawings, inspection procedures, and work instructions
Working knowledge and understanding of measurement methodologies and techniques
Experience inspecting using a microscope
Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office
Ability to plan and work under general guidance from management
Attention to detail during inspection and reporting
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a US government security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience working under ISO 9001:2015 quality production environment.
Current J-STD-001 Certification
Experience working within the US military or US defense contractor environment.
Experience and understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT).
