Job Summary
We are currently seeking a Biologist Researcher II. This position is located in West Jefferson, OH.
Responsibilities
- Support the design, execution, and reporting of laboratory experiments in toxicology, cell biology, and molecular biology within structured regulatory and quality frameworks (e.g. Select Agent regulations, ISO 9001, GLP).
- Conduct applied toxicology research, including in vitro assays (e.g., (cytotoxicity, cellular imaging) and assays supporting in vivo experiments (e.g., biomarker detection and enzyme activity determination in biological matrices).
- Select and develop technical approaches/solutions on complex assignments with occasional oversight. Develop and optimize new assays independently and under the guidance of senior scientists.
- Oversee technical efforts including: conducting technical work, producing quality results, preparing technical reports, and generating technical presentations within budget and schedule.
- Assisting in preparing scientific journal publications and presenting at professional meetings.
- Assisting in the development of proposals, marketing plans, and identifying business opportunities.
- Troubleshoots the testing process when expected results are not obtained. Recommends and executes paths forward to resolve analysis problems.
- Completes assigned project work within schedule and budget constraints.
- Foster effective project teams across the group. Train, mentor, and lead junior technical staff.
Key Qualifications
- A PhD 0+ post-degree experience, MS degree with 2+ post-degree experience, or a Bachelor’s with 4+ years of post-degree experience in pharmacology, toxicology, biology or a related field required.
- Experience in laboratory-based studies.
- Foundational knowledge of in vitro methods (e.g., mammalian cell culture, common cell-based assays).
- Experience with multiwell plate-based assays (i.e., colorimetric, fluorescent, and/or luminescent assays).
- Proactive approach to problem solving and commitment to achieving quality results on schedule.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
- Experience with training less experienced staff in laboratory techniques.
- Ability to obtain and maintain U.S. government security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
- Sufficiently medically fit to work in the laboratory to perform assigned duties including the ability to wear personal protection equipment (PPE), lift up to 50 pounds, participate in vaccination programs as needed, and work in the proximity of hazardous/infectious materials.
- Ability to obtain/maintain DoJ Security Risk Assessment (SRA) approval.
- Ability to obtain/maintain CDC approval to work with BSAT material.
- Must be willing to participate in random drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in toxicology, cell biology, genomics, or related field.
- Experience with organoids, microphysiological systems, and/or related complex cell culture models.
- Experience developing new technical procedures and troubleshooting assays.
- Experience with assay qualification/validation.
- Experience working within laboratory quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO17025, GLP).
