Job Summary
We are currently seeking a Division Manager, Drug Development and Precision Diagnostics . This position located at Battelle's Corporate Headquarters in Columbus, OH .
The position will lead multiple programs focused on successfully shaping and executing drug development and delivery programs for our US Government and commercial partners. The Division Manager, Drug Development and Precision Diagnostics is accountable for the cross-functional planning and execution of these programs, to include defining the operational strategy, management of timelines and budgets, risk assessment and mitigation, relationship management internally and with external clients and partners in the area of drug development and delivery platforms. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for the organization, management and business performance of Battelle's Precision Diagnostics laboratory, and Non-viral Drug Delivery R&D team. This position is part of the Life Sciences Research Business Line. The primary activities of the position include:
Identifies and evaluates internal and/or external resources required to efficiently operate and grow the R&D programs within the division.
Independently manages and coordinates any potential external partners for outsourced work. Works to ensure that internal project team members are trained appropriately to ensure proper study conduct.
Develops and assesses metrics to support Customer Program mission/deliverables.
Manages Division budget, pipeline and performance on an ongoing basis.
Represent the Battelle team in internal and external meetings
Establish routine risk assessments and contingency planning to meet timelines and deliverables, and ensure adherence to program governance and processes.
Develop and implement strategic business and market plans which contribute to the group's overall operating results through financial management of gross business volume, capital equipment and operating budgets.
Manages the overall financial performance of the Division as well as significant resources and staff in one or multiple locations.
Work across Battelle market sectors, global businesses, and national laboratories to ensure continuity and coordination in the areas of business development, client management, program management and opportunity expansion. Plans effective teaming arrangements, establishes shared accountabilities and shared returns, and monitors results.
Qualifications
Advanced degree in life sciences or related field
10+ years of in-depth experience in pharmaceutical drug and/or platform/diagnostic development with demonstrated success leading programs in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry or US Government.
5+ years of supporting cross-functional early and late-stage R&D programs in the biotechnology industry
Strong project management experience, PMP a plus
A track record of accomplishment in leading R&D teams
Knowledge in principles and practice of cGMP, GLP and GCP, working knowledge of regulatory requirements and guidance, including FDA, CFRs, ICH and USP Familiar with all phases of drug development from IND to BLA/NDA submissions and successful approval
Demonstrated understanding of financial metrics and cost efficiencies that have a positive business impact.
5+ years managing scientific and technical staff
Demonstrated success managing, developing, and leading diverse technical groups and staff to ensure achievement of technical and business goals.
Demonstrated success identifying new business markets and growing revenue and technical capability to meet market need.
Experience managing resource expenditures including percent time on project for staff, capital equipment, marketing, and internal research and development budgets.
Experience in, or a thorough understanding of project management including proposal or grant preparation, developing project plans and Gannt charts, spend plans, and managing work execution including earned value.
Experience in hosting and participating in external client audits and program reviews.
Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain government security clearances. Must be willing to participate in random drug screening.
Strong organizational skills and documentation abilities is required.
Should be adaptable/flexible and able to work independently and in teams as needed
Strong writing and verbal communication skills is required
Demonstrate independent problem-solving skills of technical issues
Current government security clearances and understanding of compliance with various regulatory requirements and quality systems.
Demonstrated understanding of data management systems.
