Job Summary
We are currently seeking a Supervisor, High Containment Chemistry . This position is in West Jefferson, OH .
Battelle's Life Science Research team offers a staff of highly trained scientist and technicians, and state of the art facilities to support our clients' medical counter measure, inhalation research, and chemical research programs. Our multidisciplinary integrated approach to providing critical solutions for our biotech, pharmaceuticals, agrichemical, industrial, and government clients increases the speed of the development while maintaining quality and compliance.
We are seeking a well-organized, detail-oriented, dependable team player to join our High Containment Chemistry Division as Chemistry Support Supervisor. In this role you will work as part of a team to oversee technical staff supporting chemistry, biochemistry, inhalation, quality control and kinetics. In this role you will work with study management teams to ensure delivery of high quality technical data and the safe and compliant execution of study activities. This job supports a deadline-driven environment and we are seeking an individual who is used to working within tight time frames while still maintaining high-quality work and strong safety culture.
Responsibilities
Supervise staff by assigning job responsibilities, monitoring performance, providing recommendations to management with respect to daily operations, approving timecards and leave requests.
Facilitate and coordinate study resource availability by monitoring daily schedules of staff and equipment.
Plan, schedule and execute laboratory activities of studies within time and budget.
Ensure staff compliance with training, SOPs, health and safety regulations, to ensure all client expectations are met.
Partner with Health and Safety, Management, and Chemical Agent SMEs to ensure safe execution of high hazard chemical operations.
Define department equipment needs in conjunction with management.
Perform data accuracy and/or technical review of data.
Identify and implement operational efficiencies to increase productivity.
Develop SOPs, methods, plans, and procedures.
Train staff (laboratory and classroom) in various skills, tasks, and concepts.
Perform inspections of the laboratories for compliance with required regulations and SOPs.
Contributes to task orders and proposals by attending costing meetings and providing estimated labor, equipment and material cost.
Key Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field; 3 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field. (Preferably within analytical chemistry or toxicology.)
Knowledge in Chemical Agent handling, chemistry and biochemistry laboratory operations, inhalation operations, and quality control.
Demonstrated communication skills, detail orientation, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, team environment.
Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
Must be willing to work in a biosafety level 2 (BSL2) environment and able to wear appropriate respiratory protection.
Must be willing to be immunized with licensed and FDA approved vaccines and medications recommended for persons at risk to occupational exposure of biological agents.
Must be willing to participate in periodic drug screening.
Additional requirements may be requested at a future date:
Ability to obtain/maintain certification in Chemical Personnel Reliability Program and/or Unescorted Access Program.
Ability to obtain/maintain DoJ Security Risk Assessment (SRA) approval.
Ability to obtain/maintain CDC Select Agent Program approval.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher.
Working knowledge of GLP procedures, Chemical Agent hazards, health and safety procedures, chemical laboratory operations and other appropriate specifications/statement of work.
Experience training and supervising staff.
