JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSE
The Pet Behavioral Specialist will help manage, modify, and prevent problem behavior in pets that belong to clients at the supported VOALA shelters.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with Intake of pets into facility, as needed be dispatched by the Program Managers and Senior Program Managers to intervene when a participant-s animal exhibits threatening behavior or the participant is neglecting the animal.
Provide Workshops on Animal Behavior, Care, and health.
Provide knowledge on animal characteristics such as:
i. Barking
ii. Separation Anxiety
iii. Biting
And how to correct said behaviors
Provide bonding activities to ensure the safety and security of all participants with pets, and to reduce barriers of participations for individuals experiencing homelessness with pets
Other duties as may arise to support the program
Other duties as required
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications
EDUCATION:
Animal or Canine Behavioral Specialist Certificate, or related education
EXPERIENCE:
Hands on canine training with professional groups in various disciplines (service dogs, law enforcement & military, sport dogs, and pet dog training)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT)
The International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC)
Or The Animal Behavior Society (ABS).
