Northrop Grumman Space Systems is looking for you to join our team as a Staff Software Engineer with the Software Engineering organization based out of Manhattan Beach, CA.

The Staff Software Engineer (Software Lead) will develop software which will operate in a resource constrained target environment with soft and hard real time requirements for various flight/space/ground systems. The software will typically implement complex data analysis, data routing, and/or control systems algorithms. Candidate will need familiarity with various processor, memory, and I/O architectures and be able to implement both procedural and object-oriented software in C++. Candidate will work with real-time operating systems, such as Linux or VxWorks, and their associated host/development environments and tools. The selected candidate must be comfortable working in a lab environment.
Additional responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Design, develop, document, test and debug applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
Conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software.
Determine overall system and user needs; analyze system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; design and develop compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems.
Ensure software standards are met.
The Software Lead should have academic and work experience in software engineering and development across the full life cycle for multiple domains and systems such as aerospace programs, embedded systems, test set/special test equipment, or ground system applications. The role requires experience working in a process-oriented environment utilizing waterfall, spiral, or agile processes. The Software Lead should have strong verbal and written communication skills, strong team building skills, and comfortable working on large teams with engineers from other engineering disciplines. The selected candidate will provide technical leadership for more junior team members.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related STEM degree with 12+ years software development experience OR Master's Degree with 10+ years of software development experience, OR Ph.D. with 8+ years of software development experience
Strong proficiency in OO design and in C++ programming, executing in a RTOS environment (i.e., FreeRTOS, RT-Linux, VxWorks 6.9 and 7.0, GH Integrity)
Experience designing, developing, integrating, verifying, and qualifying real-time embedded software including experience with software and systems engineering
Prior experience working in a fast-paced lab environment with rapid development
Experience and demonstrated ability to lead, manage, mentor a small technical team
Candidate must have an active, within scope, or current U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application with the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain Top Secret or SCI access
Preferred Qualifications:
CAM/EVMS experience
Experience in Agile process and Atlassian Tool Suite (Jira, BitBucket, etc)
SpaceWire bus implementations and structured protocols
Experience with Command and Telemetry
Experience with SIMICS
Salary Range: $165,000 - $247,600
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
