Job Description:
Parsons is seeking a sharp Software Engineer to support a Robotics/Intelligent Systems Research effort for our US Army DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory Customer at Adelphi and Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.
In this role you will be supporting algorithm implementation, proof-of-concept demonstrations, and performance evaluation of autonomous behaviors on individual and teams of aerial and ground robotic platforms. In addition, you will be supporting robotics research for embodied systems requires integration with the physical form and respecting the constraints (e.g. limitations on motion, force, sensing, communication, computation, etc.) which come with said platforms.
The effort and quality of physical and software integration of a robotic testbed has a direct influence on the quality and efficiency of research productivity. You will fulfill the highly important role of software development for unmanned ground and aerial systems with responsibilities including: the coding of developed research algorithms, software management of robotic platforms, contributions to collaborative coding projects, and testing of software on live robotic systems. This position teams closely with researchers to perform experiments (both in the laboratory and in realistic sim environments) to evaluate algorithm performance as well as contributing to robotic demonstrations.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Refactor and optimize prototype software algorithms developed by ARL researchers and Academic collaborators
- Enable experiments that support fundamental research in the areas of robotics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence
- Research and develop new autonomous capabilities in line with ARL mission to develop fully autonomous maneuver for robotic systems
- Develop and execute verification and validation test processes on prototype software algorithms
- Prepare and/or present presentations and written documents summarizing research and development efforts
- Communicate effectively both in writing and verbally
- Travel and test in real-world settings, including outdoors
- Develop and abide by safe testing protocols
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
- U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field
- Demonstrated strong software engineering and design fundamentals
- Strong C/C++ and Python skills
- Experience with Git, version control, and team based software development
- Robotics experience – programming and algorithms for autonomous systems
- Knowledge of localization and mapping techniques
- Experience with Robotics Operating System (ROS) and simulation environments
- Experience developing in a Linux environment
- Experience with system integration and system-level design

Salary Range:
