Job Summary
Battelle’s Transportation Business Line is currently seeking a CAV Testing/Engineering Services Manager. This position will be located in Columbus, OH, but will consider remote locations.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical though leader for CAV projects and programs focusing on end-to-end integrated CAV RDT&E.
- Develop, maintain, and update (on an annual basis) a CAV testing services and technology offerings plan/roadmap.
- Manage CAV programs and projects for government and commercial clients and deliver high quality results within budget on schedule.
- Manage research/engineering protocols and processes.
- Manage test engineering, planning, design, and test execution.
- Provide test results, synthesis, and data analytics.
- Manage simulation and modeling projects.
- Supervise testing and engineering staff and/or subcontractors.
- Oversee user test plan development to ensure that safety, security, confidentiality, and quality are maintained throughout the process.
- Identify user needs and connect with appropriate supporting resources.
- Manage delivery of test support services.
- Provide technical direction on automotive testing and data acquisition systems (DAS), data collection platforms/props (e.g., pedestrian/bicycle dummies, robotic platforms, geo location services/systems, HD maps), and other similar systems typically used for CAV testing.
- Help identify emerging equipment, technologies, and infrastructure that may improve offerings. Conduct internal R&D to develop new offerings and improve existing offerings and to create competitive advantage.
- Assist with business development activities to identify and recruit new customers.
- Participate as a technical lead in opportunity capture and proposal development efforts. Develop testing services and solution offerings in responses to customer needs.
- Maintain a strong pulse on the CAV RDT&E industry and market/customer trends and needs.
- Provide strategic technical direction on how to position Battelle for current and future market success.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Engineering or other related field specializing in automotive testing with a heavy emphasis on CAV and 8 years of experience delivering highly technical RDT&E products or services to the automotive industry with an emphasis on CAV or Master’s Degree in related field with 5 years of related experience or PhD with 2 years of related experience.
- Specific domain areas include but are not limited to proving ground testing, vehicle safety, vehicle dynamics, durability and reliability, simulation, sensor/sensor-fusion, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and CAV platform testing.
- Strong understanding of vehicle automation concepts and components including sensor systems (i.e., LiDAR, radar, camera, ultrasonic, infrared), AI/ML algorithms, and vehicle control systems.
- Experience working with advanced automotive testing and data acquisition systems (DAS), data collection platforms/props (e.g., pedestrian/bicycle dummies, robotic platforms, geo location services/systems, HD maps), and other similar systems.
- High degree of technical aptitude and business acumen.
- Experience in developing and implementing automotive/CAV testing programs tailored to client specifications, including executable test procedures and advanced analysis and data analytics methods.
- Strong understanding of different CAV testing paradigms including simulation, test track and proving ground, and on-road testing.
- Working knowledge of simulation tools such as CARLA, SUMO. Prior experience with Hardware, Vehicle, Software, and Driver in the loop (HIL/VIL/SIL/DIL) simulation systems.
- Knowledge and understanding of SAE automation levels and V2X concepts.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation and writing skills with proven ability to effectively communicate highly technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing/managing technical staff.
- Demonstrated experience managing highly complex CAV RDT&E projects and programs for multiple customers and developing complex technical proposals.
- Strong customer engagement and relationship management capabilities.
- Must be a US Citizen.
Preferred Qualifications
