Responsibilities
Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 8.5 hour shifts between 7:00a - 3:30p to include 30-min unpaid lunch
No weekends or On Call!
Job Specific Position Duties: The duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Receive patients before and after examination by optometrists or ophthalmologists and take necessary facial measurements to complete the proper fitting of eyewear. This shall include the accurate measurement of the patient's pupillary distance and temple length and recording all information on the appropriate patient's health record. For multifocal prescriptions, the health care worker shall correctly calculate and measure the height of the segment in accordance with the visual requirements of the patient to obtain maximum visual efficiency. For high dioptric powered prescriptions, the health care worker shall make note of special requirements, such as base curve, cylinder component, vertex distance decentration for special effect, etc. The health care worker shall also be responsible for placement and repair of Fresnel lenses (press on prisms). The HCW shall be responsible for electronic ordering and tracking of all glasses and eye wear ordered for patients on SRTS web. Upon receipt of glasses and eye wear notify patients and help with dispensing of ordered materials. The HCW shall be responsible for initial intake and work up of patients to include autorefraction, non-contact tonometry, visual acuity, stereopsis,and color vision. The HCW should have a basic understanding of OCT, Fundus Photography, Visual Fields, and Topography.
Although the HCW should have a broad understanding of knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to all ages of patients the majority of patients will be adults aged 18-64 years old.
Provide patient education for eye health and/or vision conditions, to include assisting with patient contact lens insertion, removal, and hygiene (cleaning and disinfection) care.
Ability to accurately enter into a phoropter the auto refractometry or habitual refractive prescription (i.e., eyeglasses prescription) or lensometer findings, including sphere, cylinder, and axis.
Ability to perform patient spectacle fitting and dispensing, including selection of appropriate frame, ophthalmic lenses, interpupillary measurements (distance and near) and proper segment height determination, as well as the ability to transpose sphere, cylinder, and axis.
Ability to provide basic triage of patient telephone calls or optometry requests.
Ability to demonstrate knowledge of ophthalmic medications and supplies needed in the process of restocking the eye clinic exam rooms.
Assist in taking patient history for review by doctor to include chief complaint, history of present condition, pertinent medical, ocular, and family history and other information as determined to be important.
Verify spectacle prescription data including sphere, cylinder, prism, interpupillary distance, using a lensmeter.
Measure visual acuity, distance and near, corrected, and uncorrected.
Measure corneal curvature using a keratometer.
Assess color vision using pseudoisochromatic plates if directed.
Uses auto-refractor to determine patient's spectacle prescription.
Performs other screening duties as directed.
Instills drops as directed.
Performs intra-ocular pressure screenings.
Performs visual field evaluations using automated & manual visual field analyzers independently.
Assist in selecting and fitting of eyeglass frames and lenses to include appropriate measurements required to order.
Ordering spectacles as directed by completing all necessary forms.
Adjusting spectacles for proper fit.
Minor repair of spectacles and determining when spectacles are not repairable.Perform fundus photography on patients as directed; perform ophthalmology MIC imaging procedures on patients as directed (by OD or OMD) to include film photography, digital Assist in monitoring patient flow to ensure that patients are not kept waiting to unreasonable times or are advised of delays.
Assist in screening phone calls, walk-in patients, and patient inquiries and scheduling as necessary.
Assist in vision clinic co-ordination and scheduling
Assist in co-ordination of spectacle and supply orders.
Deliver patient education as directed by provider.
Provides support to other areas in the clinic and staff when directed by Optometrist.
Assist in other patient care tasks or clinic administrative tasks as deemed appropriate by the staff Optometrist/Ophthalmologist.
Able to educate and assist the patient in the proper choice, use, and care of their eyewear.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate.
* Experience: Minimum of 1-year full time experience within the last 2 years as an Optician or Optometry Technician in a clinical setting.

Certification: American Board of Opticianry certification encouraged, but not required to possess.

Life Support Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS)

Security: Must be able to pass a Government background check and obtain a Government security clearance.
Pay Scale: $23.13/hr - $29.00/hr, to be determined based on qualifications, experience, and location
