Under minimal supervision, this position is responsible for managing the research and development required to create detailed operator, maintenance, and troubleshooting (fault isolation) procedures, checklists, technical specifications, alert bulletins, training materials, and other procedures and reports from engineering drawings, test procedures, design specifications/documentation, software description documents, interface control documents, engineering documents and by interviewing technical experts.
Works with team members to assemble delivery products to a Gov't customer. Ensures delivered materials are accurate, and clearly and effectively communicate the technical information and data to the appropriate audience; ensures documents are developed in accordance with the specifications and standards; and manages the delivery of the technical information to the customer in various formats including S1000D/IETMs. Plans, coordinates and leads efforts of a small-medium sized team to complete a project. May represent the organization as a primary contact on contracts and projects and may provide direction and training to less experienced staff.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Managing the research of, and utilizing an interrelation/relational database for writing removal and installation maintenance procedures; documenting and developing detailed operator procedures, troubleshooting procedures, checklists, technical specifications, alert bulletins, training materials and other procedures and reports.
Ensures accuracy of the technical data/documents, and is responsible for the technical accuracy and completeness of the product. Responsible for correcting technical and editorial errors as needed, and may participate in rewrites as necessary.
Participates, conducts, and coordinates technical reviews internally at General Atomics-EMS, and externally with the Gov't Customer. Travel to a customer or GA location may be required for validation of technical data. Manages the approval of quality tech data, which may include appropriate security classification detail.
Presents document(s) to program management staff, makes related presentations, and assists in the document security classification process.
Work with interactive electronic technical manuals (IETM) and publications; S1000D version 3.0+ and MIL-SPECs. Work with SGML/XML-type technical documentation.
Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating practices and procedures. Additional Functions Other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:
Typically requires a bachelor's degree in English, journalism, or a related discipline and nine or more years of professional technical engineering/scientific writing/editing experience. Equivalent professional technical writing/editing experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
Must demonstrate a comprehensive technical understanding of military or commercial systems, and technical writing/editing principles, theories, standards and concepts.
Must have strong working knowledge of the development of technical manuals and documentation and strong working knowledge of computer-based tools in the production of technical documentation.
The ability to grasp complex concepts quickly.
The ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is required
Experience in using Arbortext editor to write and format in XML-based language.
The ability to understand and interpret engineering drawings in both industry standard and non-standard formats, and government furnished information (GFI)
The ability to work with various relational database'.
Strong organization skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision under extended periods of time.
The ability to identify issues and develop innovation solutions to a variety of complex problems.
