Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsibilities
In this role, the Principal Engineer will help lead Field Engineering in the execution of projects and support the Construction Department during construction activities of infrastructure projects at the NNSS. This may include construction projects, emerging project issues, providing support for project discovery, project scope development, and support for identifying functional requirements for projects and systems.
Key Responsibilities
Perform the duties as the Project Field Engineer (PFE) on projects, be responsible for coordinating efforts, and give guidance to less experienced Field Engineers.
Participate in walk-downs, generate sketches, help develop conceptual designs, evaluate existing systems, and generate and/or review functional requirement documents.
Execute work in a disciplined manner to demonstrate compliance with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures.
Ensure designs are properly reviewed, purchased, executed, installed, tested, and documented in accordance with the latest issued construction documents.
Review engineering documents for constructibility during 30%, 60%, and 90% design reviews and Issued For Construction.
Verify and report on construction installation quantities.
Interface with Project Engineering to facilitate responses to Requests for Information, Field Change Requests, and needed design changes.
Develop red-line drawings for incorporation into as-built drawings.
Prepare, review and approve material requisitions.
Assist in interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision.
May serve as an internal Subject Matter Expert for the given engineering discipline.
May serve as a PFE on line-item projects.
Mentor Field Engineering staff and other technical personnel in methods, processes, and best practices.
Serve as an expert advisor to other project personnel, technical staff and management on technical issues.
Participate in project development by helping define customer needs, developing proposals and planning projects that will produce effective outcomes.
Assist in the preparation of work plans and work packages.
Apply past knowledge to develop processes that drive efficiency and accountability.
Perform other duties assigned by Management.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) required for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees
Or, Calculus-based STEM bachelor's degree in engineering
Or, for Architects, Certification from the National Council or Architectural Registration Board (NCARB)
Or Professional Engineer license
Plus at least 9 years' relevant experience.Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specializatio n or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge; graduate research experience may be recognized.
Ability to interpret codes and standards related to engineering discipline.
Experience working as a member of a team of professional and technical personnel.
In-depth experience analyzing complex technical problems and developing solutions in a systematic manner.
Experience in as-builds, analysis, and discovery of older facilities that require modifications.
PE license desired but not required.
The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).
Schedule will be 4/10s, Monday-Thursday (7:00am - 5:30pm).
Must be able to work occasional overtime, if needed due to project schedules.
Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in10 CFR Part 707.4 (http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?SID=14b1c770db022992d237769fbe9fc519&mc=true&node=se10.4.707 14&rgn=div8) , "Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites," will be conducted. Annual salary range for this position is:$116,438.40 - $177,569.60.
Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
