Responsibilities
The Stockpile Experimentation & Operations (SEO) organization is looking for a highly motivated Electro-Optical Technician II to collaborate in design, development, characterization, and fielding of diagnostics systems on high stake weapons physics experiments conducted at the PULSE facility and other facilities located at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS).
The Electro-Optical Technician II will report primarily to the NNSS and will support fielding efforts for a wide variety of diagnostic detection and recording systems, with an emphasis on theory and practical applications of diagnostics systems such as electro-optical and radiographic imagining systems.
Key Responsibilities
Work with engineers and scientists in the development and fielding of electrical, optical, and laser diagnostic data acquisition systems.
Responsible for operating diagnostic equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, delay generators, spectrum analyzers, fiber optic inspection and cleaning equipment, optical time domain reflectometers, spectrum analyzers, scientific cameras etc.
Assist in researching, extracting, analyzing and compiling system documentation, data acquisition, and technical data.
As a member of fielding support, must be able to adapt to diverse and dynamic field environments.
Must be competent in basic electronic work and optical work including Fiber optics.
Assist in the preparation of reports, graphs, proposals, studies and correspondence.
Assist in preliminary engineering analysis, conceptual design and engineering calculations.
May perform drafting tasks, review prints, and prepare sketches.
Must be willing to work within established work controls and safety standers for electrical and laser work when operating or testing equipment.
Perform other duties assigned by manager.
Qualifications
Associate degree in field related to the position or High School diploma plus 2 years' progressive related experience.
Experience with electrical components, circuitry, the building up and hand wiring of circuit boards, soldering, AC/DC electronics, basic hand tools, electronic test and measurement equipment, and basic electronic troubleshooting.
Ability to work underground required.
Ability to work well with others, as they will regularly interface with team members, other teams and outside organizations.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience with planning/organizing skills and initiative and be capable of employing independent judgment and knowledge to ensure that requirements are completed efficiently and on time.
Ability to effectively deal with pressures of deadlines and multiple tasks.
Experience working in a team environment that includes scientist, engineers, technicians, and designers.
Ability to work under minimal supervision in a dynamic multidisciplinary project environment with simultaneous commitments to performance, cost, and schedule.
Experience using standard office software products.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, work independently, and work as part of a team.
Ability to execute work in a disciplined manner to demonstrate compliance with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures.
Limited travel is required.
The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada) with some work occasionally performed at the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada.
Work schedule for this position will be 4/10's, Monday-Thursday (subject to change).
Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 (http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?SID=14b1c770db022992d237769fbe9fc519&mc=true&node=se10.4.707 14&rgn=div8) , "Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites," will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Hourly range for this position is $24.69 - $37.04.
Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
