What's a typical day as Payroll Accountant You'll be:
Supporting the payroll department by analyzing, preparing, and inputting payroll data (excluding direct payroll processing)
Running reports and managing tax and withholding matters, including employee tax notifications/statements
Preparing quarterly and monthly general ledger entries and payroll expenses for GL posting
Managing compensation for absences, overseeing accruals, and reconciling paid hours/benefits
Ensuring compliance with state and federal wage laws and supporting payroll audits/system upgrades
Producing accurate and timely payrolls using automated systems (Minus and Executime)
Updating the State Pension Plan and maintaining records through SharePoint and DocuSign
Communicating effectively via MS Office/Outlook and training timekeepers as needed
Coordinating payroll calendars and schedules, preparing routine and ad-hoc management reports, and maintaining quality control of records systems
This job might be an outstanding fit if you:
Have experience with automated payroll systems; public sector or public safety payroll experience is a plus
Are highly proficient in Excel, including V-lookups and pivot tables
Are familiar with ERP systems
Can manage document workflows via SharePoint and DocuSign
Possess strong technical knowledge and communication skills, especially with MS Office Outlook
Hold relevant education or professional experience in payroll/accounting - Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or related field is a plus
Are available to work in-person in Los Alamos, NM, and can commit to the role through June 30, 2027
