Job Purpose or Objective(s): Develops and executes the directives of the Environmental Protection department for the immediate and long-term environmental health of the Choctaw Nation Reservation and its members.
Provide for the development and guidance of the environmental strategy for the Choctaw Nation. Guarantee proper environmental regulation, execution, and enforcement for all environmental activities, CNO facilities, and the Choctaw Nation Reservation.
Monitor Federal and State laws to ensure regulatory compliance with Choctaw Nation's industry and all facilities. Advise leadership of policies and regulations that affect Tribal operations and develop strategies for necessary operational changes.
Implement environmental projects, policies, and procedures to protect the land, water, and air in accordance with the vision of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
Develop and implement the Tribal Air Quality Implementation Plan and the Tribal Land Protection Plan for Choctaw Nation.
Maintain the government-to-government relationship with the Environmental Protection Agency as a sovereign tribal nation.
Manage a team of Environmental Professionals that supports the Tribe's regulatory compliance needs, promulgates and enforces code, trains necessary CNO staff, forms corrective actions for environmental negligence, protects natural resources from negative impacts.
Develop and maintain necessary programmatic documentation such as: Quality Assurance Project Plans; Quality Management Plans; Integrated Solid Waste Management Plans; and other environmental plans related to current and future finding EPA projects and programs.
Develop and implement strategic plans for media specific environmental protection programs that are relevant to the needs of the Choctaw Nation and its members. Actively participate in the Land Action Team and other Tribal projects, as necessary.
Secure funding to develop and implement a successful self-sufficient tribal environmental protection office for the Choctaw Nation
Perform other duties as may be assigned.
MINIMUM
Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or related field
Ability to orchestrate key operational strategies, while working alone or in a team environment to enhance departmental growth
Ability to motivate and simultaneously develop and execute multiple projects
Ability to conduct research and report writing
Experience working with people at multiple levels of an organization
Ability to apply written and verbal communication
High level of interpersonal skills
Supervisory experience in a team environment.
Eight (8) years Environmental Engineering or Environmental Sustainability experience a plus
