Duties Description The New York State Education Department's (NYSED) Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for a Food Service Worker 2 position at the New York State School for the Blind. The incumbent of this position will assist in all food service management activities. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:- Assist in preparation of meals;- Ensure proper sanitation of all kitchen areas and all pots, pans, sinks, steam tables, cooler, and equipment;- Supervise Food Service Worker 1's and, in the absence of the Food Service Worker 3, supervise the operation of the kitchen; and- Inspect all kitchen areas to ensure that cleaning agents and chemicals are picked up, properly stored, and are out of students reach.
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for this title. If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for this title, you may receive a canvass letter. For provisional appointment, candidates must have one year of permanent service as a Food Service Worker 1 OR have two years of qualifying experience* in commercial or institutional food preparation or food service. Provisional candidates must take the examination for Food Service Worker 2 when it is next offered and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment. * Examples of qualifying experience: Commercial or institutional food service includes but is not limited to employment in a hospital, nursing home, or school cafeteria; residential dining hall; restaurant; or diner. Experience must have included responsibility for food preparation, food service, and ordering of food and non-food supplies. Examples of Non-Qualifying Experience: Non-qualifying food service experience includes but is not limited to waiting tables (waiter/waitress/server), greeting and seating guests (host/hostess), clearing and cleaning tables (bussing), serving beverages (bartender), cashier, dishwasher, or cleaning staff.Substitution for the Qualifying Experience: Appropriate * formal culinary arts or food service training which resulted in a certificate or degree may be credited towards the above experience as follows: - a six-month certificate training program * - up to six months of the required experience; OR - a one-year certificate training program * - up to one year of the required experience; OR- an associate degree * or higher in culinary arts or food service from a regionally accredited college or university - up to two years of the required experience. **Appropriate formal food service training programs are programs accredited by one of the following: American Culinary Federation Education Foundation Accrediting Commission (ACFEFAC) or non-degree programs recognized by the American Culinary Federation Foundation Educational Assurance program or programs accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT)
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment or a temporary provisional appointment. Provisional candidates must take the examination for Food Service Worker 2 when it is next offered and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees' negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Division of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. Fees associated with this process are at the applicant's expense. Fees associated with fingerprinting do not apply if applicant's fingerprints exist in the NYS TEACH System. The work schedule for this position includes hours of Monday through Friday 6:30am to 3:00pm.This position leads to a maximum salary of $50,884 based on annual performance advances. For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position.
