Sr. Cost Analyst / Sr Financial Analyst
Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, our Sr. Financial Analyst / Sr. Cost Analyst is a valuable member of our Strategic Analytics team. The Sr. Financial Analyst completes, maintains, and assists in the enhancement of the build and functionality within the Syntellis (formerly McKesson) Decision Support Cost Model. They execute, validate, and reconcile cost accounting jobs and yielded results on a recurring basis. This position also produces, documents, and clarifies cost accounting metrics used in Strategic Analytic reports and/or the Business Intelligence tool. They also develop and audit Hospital Reporting and Ad Hoc Analysis which include Revenue Cycle Reports, Profit and Loss and New Program Development. This position works closely with others in Finance and our clinical departments.
Duties of a Sr. Financial Analyst / Sr. Cost Analyst in the Strategic Analytics department may include but, are not limited to the following:
Completes, maintains and assists in the enhancement of the build and functionality within the Syntellis PM Cost Model.
Maintains, modifies and validates the data structure around all aspects of our cost accounting model including General Ledger (GL), Payroll, Revenue and Expense Reclassifications, Overhead Allocations, Relative Value Unit (RVU) assignment, Activity and Encounter Costing.
Understands how to modify the cost model to accurately reflect changes within the institution that will arise after our initial build.
Assists in the development of RVUs with the Associate Director by meeting with department administrators and translating collected labor and supplies information to appropriate RVUs for use in Service Item Costing.
Modifies and creates monthly statistics, documenting any changes in methodology.
Executes, validates and reconciles cost accounting jobs and yielded results on a recurring basis.
Runs costing jobs in a timely and efficient manner by referring to a task calendar containing current and expected scheduled jobs.
Validates that the cost methodologies have produced accurate results, by leveraging existing and building new standard worksheets that can be routinely run.
Maintains cost accounting reconciliation steps after each monthly close by developing and maintaining standard process in collaboration with Associate Director.
Produces, documents, and clarifies cost accounting metrics and values used in Strategic Analytic reports and/or the BI tool.
Creates worksheets in Syntellis that contain cost fields (via formulas or existing) that align with business needs or requirements for specific analyses.
Assists in reviewing and validating costs on a monthly basis for BI Scorecards and Tableau dashboards
Participates in Hospital Reporting and Ad Hoc Analysis which include Revenue Cycle Reports, Profit and Loss and New Program Development.
Performs other work-related duties as assigned or requested.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field.
Minimum of 4 years of progressive finance experience.
Advanced Microsoft Office, Excel skills.
Strong analytical skills with ability to collect, organize, synthesize and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
Preferred:
Experience with accounting concepts, budget processes, analytics and planning, service line profitability, forecasting concepts in a healthcare setting.
Experience in hospital cost accounting.
Experience with integration and interfacing of data feeds from hospital source systems to Decision Support, Cost Accounting Systems.
Experience with Hospital Reimbursement.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The salary range (or hiring range) for this position is $102,000 - $117,300 / year.
The above salary range represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate's validated years of comparable experience. Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.
Some positions offer annual supplemental pay such as:
Location pay for UUP, CSEA & PEF full-time positions ($3,400).
