POSITION PURPOSE:
The College Intern position provides qualified students with practical work experience that is intended to complement their academic course work. Support the NWD contract performance through a range of activities and assigned tasks requiring knowledge of a defined technical, professional, and/or operational area. Receive training and mentorship in planning and carrying out activities and assignments to support the assigned department. Interns can gain valuable work experience through on-the-job training and mentorship in planning and executing activities to support project performance. Assists Interns with developing a professional networking base for the future positions in their desired occupational field. Interns will be assigned to departments including Engineering, Business Management, Environmental, Safety, Quality, Information Technology/Cyber Security, and others as best suited based upon academic area of study and the needs of the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under direct supervision of professional staff, provides entry-level professional support services in a specialty field, as appropriate to the day-to-day operating objectives of the department.
Assists in the planning and implementation of assigned projects; participates in projects and programs that will develop professional skills and expertise.
Utilize acquired knowledge and skills to carry out and complete department activities and objectives.
Provide basic and advanced technical support relative to the assigned department workload.
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Must be detail oriented, organized, ability to complete projects within timelines and under minimal supervision, proficient in Microsoft office, knowledgeable able to perform within academic study area, and ability to perform technical writing.
Write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
Maintains a safe working environment. Demonstrates awareness and implementation of applicable environmental, safety, and health (ES&H) requirements while also alerting co-workers of such requirements as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Position requires high school diploma or equivalent plus full-time student currently enrolled in good standing, pursuing an associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree and having completed a minimum three semesters or four quarters (minimum of 30 hours) of completed academic coursework toward a specified degree relevant to the NWD scope of work as of December 31st of prior year.
