The Airframe and Structures Engineering Directorate is seeking high-performing engineering interns with a focus on Material and Process Engineering that are interested in working on jet-powered, unmanned aerial drones used for tactical systems, weapon systems testing and warfighter training.
Typical responsibilities:
Support engineering staff responsible for designing components manufactured from composite or metallic materials including material and processing requirements for composites, adhesives, and coatings.
Research industry data and assist in the selection of materials and integrating hardware.
Research and test new materials to be qualified for use in production.
Develop Kratos material or process specifications as standards for material procurement or production operations.
Use CATIA computer aided design software to support tool development, create 3D models and engineering drawings.
Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to determine drawing requirements that provide affordable design and tolerance studies to assure proper assembly.
May perform basic engineering calculations to assess design integrity.
May prepare and present design review material for internal peer reviews.
Interface with analysis engineers and manufacturing engineering to complete design tasks
Research, collect and analyze historical product data.
COMPENSATION: $25 per hour
DURATION: Summer internship (approximately June - August)

Detailed understanding and application of technical documentation and engineering processes and practices.
Ability to review Engineering Change Notices (ECN's).
Ability to generate compliant documentation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required:
In process of obtaining a BS or MS degree in Engineering.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Office and/or manufacturing environment.
Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time.
Ability to perform repetitive motion (keyboarding, 10-key, phones).
May be required to lift up to 50 pounds in accordance with KUAS General Safety Training guidelines.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
0-25% - May be required to travel between locations.
