The MITRE Special Operations Department (N552) is seeking a highly motivated candidate to serve as a Theater Special Operations Command (TSOC) Systems Engineer for the Special Operations Forces (SOF) work program. The N552 Department operates across a globally integrated team, and partners closely with other MITRE departments supporting the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) Headquarters, Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), the Service Component Special Operations Commands (SOCs), and the Theatre Special Operations Commands (TSOCs). We work with the SOF Community to reduce risk; impact mission success; and help ensure the safe return of operators.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Qualified candidates will have a strong technical background in Cyber and RF operations with demonstrated experience supporting the special operations, defense, or intelligence communities, including familiarity with:
Cyber, WiFi & Bluetooth use in the field
RF Communications
Technical requirements in relation to communications
TSOC Operations / SOF Domain expertise
Additionally, qualified candidates must show interest or willingness to learn and take part in technical assessments of products in several communication focused domains such as network communications, Software Designed Radios (SDRs), and Satellite Communications. Selected candidates will work closely with military/civilian personnel at TSOC locations and coordinate with experienced engineers at MITRE to achieve desired sponsor outcomes. Candidates must be able to work collaboratively, demonstrating strong teamwork and cooperation with MITRE, military, and civilian experts to address critical mission needs; provide options which anticipate operational needs; and identify relevant emerging methods that address SOF mission challenges.
Selected candidates will demonstrate the following:
Domain/Technical Competence. Demonstrate familiarity with Cyber and RF Operations and be willing to learn one or more of (1) Special/Resilient Communications (2) Network Communications (3) Mobile Phone Architectures
Collaboration. Engage and collaborate with engineers and planners, subject matter experts, specialists, and industry professionals. Leverage technical expertise from MITRE Labs, capabilities from the MITRE Platforms, and other sponsor efforts to support the FFRDC value proposition.
Sponsor Experience. Comfortably and respectfully engage with military and civilian leaders and engineers, as well as industry representatives.
Flexibility and Suitability. Be able to modify and alter course as the environment and sponsor priorities shift. Understand the power of reach-back and be an effective conduit to bring the talent forward to execute at the right time. Operate within SOF culture and sensitive activities boundary conditions.
Basic Qualifications:
Typically, 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in a technical domain, such as Electrical Engineering, Communications, or similar field; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience
Strong RF Operations and/or Cyber Operations / Systems Engineering background.
Experience in evaluating products, vulnerability analysis or penetration testing on commercial devices in relation to technical requirements for SOF Operations.
Demonstrated ability to work in dynamic and multi-disciplinary environments.
Must be able to work in a collaborative environment and adjust to changing deadlines and priorities to accomplish the customer mission.
Applicants selected for this position will be subjected to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.
Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI Clearance
This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-sit
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong Cyber Operations experience
Strong Operational / Technical Vulnerability Mitigation experience
Proven ability to provide objective solutions and recommendations to address customer challenges.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; effective technical presentation skills
Knowledge and experience working with a wide variety of interagency and intelligence community partners.
Previous experience within Combatant Commands
Self-starter, with an eagerness to work with ambiguity and imperfect information.
Active TS/SCI
