Job Description:
The Mobile Sensors program performs Operations and Maintenance (O&M) for a ship based marine mobile platform with complex multi-mission radar and communication systems which have a sophisticated command & control computing structure, along with communication interfaces and support sub-systems. These systems and the program assigned employees, which include represented members (union), are tasked to primarily operate in the Pacific Command's (PACOM) Area of Responsibility (AOR). Our program ensures the COBRA KING (CK) Radar and communication systems are ready for operation 24-hours a day for 7-days a week and can support mission operations on very short notice.
The Mobile Sensors Program is looking for a Systems Administrator. In this position, you will serve as technical point of contact for the computer-based systems and networks inclusive of both the radar and communications onboard USNS Howard O. Lorenzen and those computer simulators located at the Patrick Space Force Base (PSFB) Mobile Sensors facility. The responsible Systems Administrator will be competent with those operating systems consistent with AIX (Unix), Linux and Microsoft Windows. This position is responsible for planning, developing, installation, configuration and maintenance of IT systems, storage, end user hardware, software, and other infrastructures aligned with customer requirements. This includes end-to-end solutions, including execution of detailed design, implementation, configuration management and sustainment activities that ensure functionality, data consistency, security and usability of systems aligned with the intended requirements and customer priorities. Enables IT system consumers to produce their intended work products efficiently and reliably through cross-functional collaboration. Responsible for proactive and predictive management of IT environments, ensuring optimal availability, performance, and integrity be maintained through system expansion, modernization, sustainment, and retirement, based upon the demand from the system customer. Troubleshoots and resolves IT system issues. Prepares work estimates in support of customer projects. Automates routine activities, leveraging scripting and off the shelf solutions to effectively manage IT resources in physical and virtual environments and to secure systems. Installs updates for consumer and end user software. Interacts directly with the customer through Configuration Control Boards and Configuration Change Requests.
Travel requirement: OCONUS & CONUS ~ 25%
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Ensure consistent software configuration across all program sites and maintain software used in support of mission systems at the highest level ensuring effective data collection and support.
Lead Multi-Site CONUS support efforts, making sure all desktop applications, workstations, and related equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions.
Ensure the program is on distribution with all software vendors for any programed device(s) that may provide periodic software upgrades for application to the program mission equipment.
Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems and assessing impact of issues.
Experience configuring, managing and upgrading IBM AIX and Red Hat Linux.
Experience using Ansible Engine for configuration management.
Experience managing IBM Power Systems and the Power Systems Hardware Management Console (HMC).
Experience scripting for systems administration.
Experience with IBM Spectrum Protect Server and Backup client.
Experience with IBM Spectrum Scale (formerly GPFS).
Experience with programming concepts and debugging.
Experience equivalent to 5+ years in Tier 2/3 System Support
Active DoD SECRET Clearance; ability to obtain Top Secret/SCI
IAT II Level certification (DoD 8140 technical certification)
Desired Skills and Experience:
Familiarity with managing Microsoft Windows.
Familiarity with Mellanox and Cisco Ethernet switches.
Familiarity with Brocade SAN switches.
Familiarity with programming concepts and debugging.
Familiarity with the Python, Perl, BASH and KSH languages.
General understanding of TCP/IP and related protocols (HTTP, FTP, NFS, SSH, RSH, etc.).
General understanding of AIX and Linux internals (system calls, file systems, processes, etc.).
Current U.S. Passport with minimum of 1 year prior to expiration and 3 blank pages
Desired Education Requirements:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science or a related STEM field or 6 years of applicable professional experience in lieu of a degree.
Other Job requirements:
If OCONUS travel/support is necessary, there will be a requirement to complete a Maritime Medical Exam.
