Desired Qualifications
: Candidate should have excellent oral/written communication skills, and willing to assist Senior Engineers with customer interface and relevant sensor-based IPTs. Candidate should be willing to work outdoors up to 70% of the time regardless of weather conditions, to include hot/humid conditions, cold conditions, heights, and around ammunition and explosives. Candidate should be able to come to work early, stay late, and work in shifts as testing schedule dictates. Candidate should be willing to work paid overtime hours and travel at least 30% of the year. Candidate should have practical experience with optical systems or subsystems, to include laboratory bench-level experience. Candidate should have rudimentary experience with writing software language code and operating electronics measurement equipment. Candidate should work well with others, have a strong work ethic, be a motivated self-starter, be well organized, and be on time to work. Candidate should be able and willing to flex support to multiple capabilities in accordance with mission requirements. Software development skills desired, to include GUI design and writing interfaces for instrumentation controls. Optical design experience desired in Zemax, Code 5, or other standard design software such as CAD applications. Experience in PCB design desired. Experience in graphic design desired.
Duties:
Primary role is to support the MSS Sensor Performance Team in developmental test of Electro -Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) sensor systems. Testing involves both open-air range and laboratory operation of optical instrumentation, to include radiometers, scientific thermal cameras, atmospheric transmission equipment, blackbody/visible light sources, and spectral reflectance instruments. In addition to executing staple RTC testing, a key expectation of this position is to help drive the development of novel EO/IR test capabilities and facilitate the development of software tools to test sensor-based technologies. Secondary role is to support other MSTD mission sets as needed when/if EO/IR sensor testing OPTEMPO slows down.
