KBR is looking for a Deputy Technical Lead - IT Systems/Software Engineer to support and lead multiple Engineering tasks for our Joint Technical Data Integration (JTDI) program. As an SE Deputy Technical lead with KBR, you will participate in designing appropriate technical solutions for mission services using scalable technologies in a mission critical environment. You should be able to explore existing systems for reuse and guide the team in designing new systems with appropriate technology, preferably scalable OnPrem or Cloud-based technologies. You will work with systems and network engineers, developers, IT security, operations, and other lead managers in designing, planning, and developing the solution and design requirements. You will create innovative strategies to ensure smooth running of your product, prioritizing system improvements to address compliance and resiliency. You will need to be a player-coach, willing to dig in and get your hands dirty while being able to keep the big picture team-management in mind. You will be managing all technical aspects of a team of network engineers and collaborative work with other support groups for the design, development, implementation, maintenance, configuration management and quality control of the hosting infrastructure for ensuring a stable/secure/highly available network computing environment in support of critical mission operations. The SE Technical Lead will ensure the maintenance, configuration, and installation of the systems and product deliverables are met in accordance with the operational and compliance requirements. You will set standards for system design and configurations, along with setting baselines for our technology stack. We need a leader to guide how system and product development should be performed across the enterprise. Coaching, mentoring, and staff development are a high priority for this position. We need someone who can help a group of systems engineers be more efficient and effective. Remove the bottlenecks, get everyone on the same page, and turn them loose. You should be someone who wants to make the people around you better.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead cross-functional teams on various sized projects to deliver IT services in a multi-customer and multi-vendor environment. Requires strong change management skills with the ability to ensure quality and customer satisfaction as a top need amid competing priorities. Responsible for providing overall direction and management to multiple work groups engaged in diverse IT infrastructure activities such as service build-out and configuration, system administration, hardware procurement, ground system network design and operations. This position is responsible for the scope, resources, schedule, and performance of multiple projects in a very technical environment. Manage through direct reports as well as outside teams comprised of system engineers, system administrators and network operations personnel. Directs the performance of operational tasks, oversees the financial and technical delivery of task objectives, and manages all client interaction.
Works closely with other engineering disciplines in the development and completion of projects to increase production quality, efficiency, or volume. Develops technical proposals to support new business development including statements of work, task order documentation, staffing plans and financial tracking. Owns the customer relationship and conducts briefings, provides status, and leads technical solution and requirements sessions through daily customer interactions. Anticipates and plans for skills and human resource requirements and develops staff to meet those needs. Conducts performance evaluations, plans salary actions, recommends hires and promotions. Strong organization and verbal/written communication skills. Ability to handle multiple priorities concurrently. Proven track record to drive results and self-initiation. Ability to work with technical staff and communicate technical content.
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills along with good communication skills and the ability to present ideas and influence others. Demonstrated leadership skills with proven experience in leading technical resources through the development lifecycle. Performs 1:1 meetings and quarterly reviews with subordinates.
Excellent knowledge of project management methodology, techniques and skills required to effectively manage scope, schedule, costs, communication, resources, quality, and risk.
Must be able to manage multiple projects.
Must be able to lead a group of 6-10 direct reports.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: BS degree in a STEM discipline. Additional experience accepted in lieu of formal BS Degree.
Experience: 5-7 years related experience. Must have hands-on OnPrem & Cloud/AWS experience.
Citizenship & Clearance: Must be a U.S. citizen. Must have or be able to obtain a Secret Clearance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
CompTIA Sec + and an Operating System Certification
5+ years of hands-on technical experience and having a mix of skillsets with on-prem and AWS Cloud technology, Linux and Windows platforms, Storage, Network, Backups Management, Automation, Security Compliance
5+ years of experience in formal management, leading a team.
5+ years of experience developing project execution plans, schedules, and budgets.
An adept leader, you're no stranger to navigating large-scale projects with finesse.
Your expertise in resource management, strategic planning, and process improvement is surpassed only by your commitment to balancing stakeholder expectations with concrete business outcomes.
Experience working in a process-oriented environment in compliance with IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) standards, Ver3 or 4.
Experience working in 24x7 mission critical hosting environment and services, where continuous availability of infrastructure is essential and of the highest priority.
Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 hours/week
Additional Compensation: KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels per internal policy or contractual designation.
