Job Summary
Join our team as a Principal Business Systems Analyst. We are seeking an experienced Microsoft Power BI developer with strong business intelligence (BI) and modeling skills to support enterprise reporting requirements. Candidates will be responsible for the design, development, coding, testing, deployment, debugging, documentation, and customization of enterprise BI and analytic applications. In this role, you will work closely with the members of the Data Management and Analytics team and Functional Organizations to gather requirements and then develop robust visualizations with Power BI to meet business objectives.
What You Will Do
Design, develop, and validate Power BI Reports based on assignment from Management.
Perform data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes against internal NPS Data Sources.
Use the manipulated data to create visual representations that supply information to enhance business workflows and processes.
Consider appropriate data sources, data flow, and data merging options in the creation of Power BI solutions.
Identify potential problems with Data Sources.
Collaborate with the Data Management and Analytics team and IT resources throughout the development lifecycle utilizing best practices for implementation and design.
Follow software development design practices with respect to estimation, design, documentation, and testing.
Gather requirements for new or modified reports from Functional Organizations across Naval Power Systems; validate new and existing Reports against Source Data for completeness, accuracy, and conformity to requirements.
May lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of existing reports either directly or through direction of others.
Provide support and training to users of reports as well as other members of the group and report developers across NPS in order to increase the data literacy of the organization.
Participate in the development of plans and procedures to be followed in NPS Data Management and Analytics team.
Provide estimates for all work and guide others in estimation process.
Act as a liaison between the Data Management Group and other Functional Organizations.
May supervise work product of other less experienced employees.
Education & Experience Requirements
Relevant experience in the field of Data Management and Analytics + a bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
Minimum of six years of experience overall as a Software Engineer with four years hands-on experience in Power BI Report Development.
Strong knowledge of Power BI data querying and modeling capabilities, such as creation of calculated columns, measures, and relationships.
Experience with creating analyses following Software Development Processes including structured design and testing.
Excellent analytical thinking for translating data from diverse sources into informative visuals and reports.
Demonstrated proficiency with DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) including the ability to build and optimize DAX formulas in Power BI.
Proficient in Power Query (Query - M) expressions as well as familiarity with SQL queries.
Experience with use of Excel Power Query/Power Pivot, Microsoft Fabric Environment and Power Platform including Power Apps and Power Automate.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet delivery commitments while maintaining accuracy.
Exceptional customer service skills, including the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of customers.
Solid understanding and proven experience in requirements definition and management techniques including business processes, use case, workflow, and data modelling.
Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to build a good network.
Must be diligent, hardworking, and a quick learner.
Candidates must be a US citizen and meet DRS security standards as imposed by DoD, including the issuance of any necessary security clearance by the US government within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
