Our department specializes in instructional systems design (ISD), space operations subject matter expertise (SME), and video production services. We deliver innovative training and consulting, while supporting various onboarding, welcome, promotional, and business development solutions efforts. Join our small yet dynamic team of professionals dedicated to making a difference in the instructional and technical writing domains.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and versatile ISD and Technical Writing Intern to support our team in designing effective learning experiences and producing high-quality documentation. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for education, technology, and communication, with the ability to work collaboratively on instructional content and technical writing projects. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment, contributing to meaningful projects with real-world applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development of instructional materials, including course outlines, lesson plans, eLearning modules, and assessments.
- Research and write clear, concise, and engaging technical documentation, user manuals, and guides.
- Collaborate with team members to analyze training needs and recommend instructional strategies.
- Contribute to the creation and editing of content using tools like oXygen XML Editor and DITA Open Toolkit (DITA-OT).
- Update existing stylesheets (XSLTs) and assist in developing new plugins for use with the oXygen XML Editor.
- Ensure all instructional and technical materials align with project goals, audience needs, and industry standards.
- Support the team’s efforts in integrating new technologies and improving training methodologies.
- Maintain organized project documentation and track progress on assigned tasks.
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Instructional Design, Technical Writing, Communications, Education or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with technical tools like oXygen XML Editor and DITA-OT (preferred but not required).
- Basic understanding of instructional design principles and adult learning methodologies.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
Desired Skills:
- Experience or coursework in instructional systems design (ISD).
- Familiarity with XML and XSLT for technical documentation.
- Knowledge of updating and maintaining XSLTs for use with oXygen XML Editor.
- Ability to create and customize plugins for oXygen XML Editor and integrate with DITA-OT.
- Understanding of eLearning tools and platforms such as TechSmith Camtasia or Adobe Captivate.
- Exposure to space operations or related technical fields (preferred, but not required).
