Responsibilities You will repair, overhaul, modify, and install locking devices which make up security or surveillance systems. You will use blueprints, specifications, and sketches to plan and determine the work sequence for lock repairs. You will use tools and equipment of the locksmith trade to install locks throughout an organization. You will troubleshoot commercially manufactured locking devices to determine repair or replacement requirements. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform duties of a LOCKSMITH without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by: 1) Perform a full repair cycle of locating malfunction, disassembly, repair, cleaning, reassembly, and reinstallation of a wide variety of commercially manufactured locking devices; 2) Determining the work sequence and select hand and power tools (e.g. files, picks, tweezers, tension wrenches, grinders, buffers, stamping machines, electric drills, soldering, irons, brazing torches, bench lathes and drill presses) to repair locking mechanisms; 3) Plan techniques to be used and apply judgement in the selection of tools and accepted trade practices to troubleshoot and neutralize locks according to appropriate guidelines, manufacturer drawings, diagrams, and technical manuals. Education Additional Information This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. A 40-hour work week is typical for this position. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. The employee may be required to work in shifts. The employee may be required to work regularly scheduled overtime or overtime on an emergency call-back basis.
