Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Structural Engineer (Loads) or Senior Principal Structural Engineer (Loads) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in the Aircraft Loads Section. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.
As an engineer supporting the Aircraft Loads section, the selected candidate will support the analysis needs of unclassified and classified programs, performing analysis and integration activities. Candidate will collaborate cross-discipline to define and perform study areas for analysis.
Essential Functions:
Provide external aircraft loads analysis (flight, ground, fatigue, captive carriage, miscellaneous) to programs
Perform subsonic and supersonic aircraft loads analysis
Interact with internal customers, assisting in defining system requirements, defining study areas, and providing status on current programs and technology
Develop and present materials for internal program related briefings
Support new business generation and prepare proposal material
Strong verbal and communication skills to interact with key cross-discipline stakeholders to achieve program objectives in a timely manner
Apply and contribute to the development of advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts.
Work on unusually complex technical problems and provide solutions which are highly innovative
Work under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives.
This position may be filled at either the Principal Structural Engineer (Loads) or Senior Principal Structural Engineer (Loads) level, depending upon the qualifications below.
Basic Qualifications for Principal Structural Engineer:
Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering experience; OR Master's degree in a STEM discipline with a minimum of 3 years of relevant engineering experience; OR PhD in a STEM discipline with a minimum of 0 years of related engineering experience.
Proficiency with FEM models
Knowledge or proficiency with external aircraft loads analysis (flight, ground, fatigue, miscellaneous)
Ability and willingness to travel 10% of the time.
A current active DoD Secret or higher security clearance is required
Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP/PAR).

Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 9 years of relevant engineering experience; OR Master's degree in a STEM discipline with a minimum of 7 years of relevant engineering experience; OR PhD in a STEM discipline with a minimum of 4 years of related engineering experience.
Proficiency with FEM models
Knowledge or proficiency with external aircraft loads analysis (flight, ground, fatigue, miscellaneous)
Ability and willingness to travel 10% of the time.
A current active DoD Secret or higher security clearance is required
Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP/PAR).
Preferred Qualifications for both levels:
Three plus (3+) years of experience in Aircraft Loads and Flight Sciences engineering disciplines.
Experience in external aircraft loads analysis flight, ground, fatigue, and miscellaneous loads
Experience in Aircraft Loads processes and products throughout the program life cycle.
Experience with NASTRAN, FEMAP, Zonair, Zaero, Matlab
Understanding of Systems Engineering Principles and Model Based Systems Engineering tools (MBSE) with a practical focus for relevant use cases in propulsion integration.
A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Top Secret clearance with current or previous Special Program Access (SAP/PAR).
Salary Range: $107,300 - $160,900
Salary Range 2: $133,000 - $199,600
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
