SAIC is seeking a Database Engineer for a REMOTE position supporting the US Air Force Agency for Modeling and Simulation (AFMS) program.

AFMS is the premier agency responsible for implementation, integration, and development of Modeling and Simulation (M&S) and training and analysis standards that support the US Air Force (USAF), Department of Defense (DoD), and mission partners requiring these capabilities to support the Warfighter in full-spectrum operations.
As a Database Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, and optimization of our customer's database systems. Your expertise in database management and administration will be essential in ensuring data integrity, performance, and availability. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and provide efficient database solutions that meet our clients' needs.
Job Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and implement database systems that align with business requirements and performance goals.
Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and analyze database requirements and provide technical recommendations.
Perform database installations, configurations, upgrades, and migrations to ensure smooth operations.
Develop and implement data models, database schemas, and data dictionaries to support application development.
Optimize database performance by conducting performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing.
Implement and maintain database security measures, including user access controls, data encryption, d auditing.
Monitor database systems to identify and resolve issues, ensuring high availability and reliability.
Conduct regular backups, data recovery, and disaster recovery procedures to safeguard critical data.
Collaborate with development teams to optimize database integration with applications and troubleshoot any data-related issues.
Stay up-to-date with emerging database technologies and trends to recommend improvements and drive innovation.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and 5 (five) years; or relevant years of experience in lieu of degree.
Proven experience working as a Database Engineer or similar role.
DoD 8570 certification in IAT Level II certification or above (Security+ CE, CASP+ CE, CISSP, etc.)
Must be a US Citizen and currently possess a Secret Security Clearance.
Desired Qualifications:
Strong proficiency in database management systems such as MongoDB, MariaDB, MySQL, and PostgreSQL, and familiarity with NoSQL databases like Apache Druid.
In-depth understanding of database design principles, data modeling, and normalization, with strong ETL skills.
Experience in performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting database performance issues.
Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages for database automation and maintenance tasks.
Familiarity with database security best practices and techniques for data protection.
Knowledge of database backup and recovery strategies, as well as disaster recovery procedures.
Experience with cloud-based database solutions, such as Amazon RDS, Azure SQL Database, or Google Cloud SQL.
Reverse engineering and debugging skills to analyze and resolve complex database issues.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within a team and interact with stakeholders.
Experience in data flow automation using Apache NiFi.
Strong proficiency in managing and integrating Learning Record Stores (LRS), specifically SQLLRS, for tracking learning experiences.
Target salary range: $80,001 - $120,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
