Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking a Systems Engineer (SE) to lead and manage technical aspects of antenna systems/projects across various lifecycle phases for our Advanced Aperture Solution group. The SE will maintain responsibility for meeting project targets, performing engineering tasks, and lead engineering activities across multiple disciplines. The SE will interact with customers to determine needs/requirements, guide architecture design, and lead multiple programs to ensure technical requirements are met or exceeded. This role requires effective communication skills and the ability to present complex solutions to diverse audiences.
The Advanced Aperture Solutions (AAS) group is quick reaction capability (QRC) aperture solutions business based in Rockwall, TX. AAS is responsible for the design and development of high-gain antenna systems for military airborne, maritime, and ground platforms. Our team has State-of-the-Art design tools validated with real hardware prototypes including CST Design Studio Antenna Modeling Software, Circuit Board design software, MATLAB software, SolidWorks software, and a PCB Laser that produces multiple same-day iterations of antenna designs. We ultimately provide critical ISR capabilities to fight and win in the SIGINT operating environment.
Essential Functions:
Prepare and conduct technical briefings and technical baseline reviews.
Assess and report on technical project status, risks, and issues.
Oversee product development, technical activities, and system integration to ensure designs meet system level requirements.
Perform systems level requirements, design, test, and integration of antenna systems for various platforms.
Prepare systems requirements, design reviews, and documentation per standard development processes.
Collaborate with design teams, test, production, program management, and customers to execute systems and deliver high-quality solutions.
Support business development activities including planning, customer visits, technical briefings, and customer demonstrations.
Draw on internal resources to generate accurate estimates for NRE and recurring costs.
Make decisions on high-level/high-impact technical issues.
Debug and troubleshoot software and hardware devices.
Write and release system specifications, test procedures, and qualification reports.
Manage and work in fast-paced environments, focusing on problem resolution and process improvement.
Interface with customers on technical and contractual matters, ensuring satisfaction and business growth.
Generate accurate NRE and recurring cost estimates and provide short-term technical support.
Position requires travel up to 10%
Qualifications:
Bachelors in engineering or other related field with 9 years of related experience. Graduate degree and a minimum of 7 years of related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
Experience preparing RF/Antenna systems requirements, design reviews, and documentation per standard development processes.
Experience integrating complex systems in lab/aircraft environments.
Experience with various RF test equipment ( Vector Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, Signal Generators, Noise Figure Meters ).
Position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance
Preferred Additional Skills:
Experience with reading/reviewing wiring/block diagrams, mechanical drawings, and PCB schematic/layout drawings.
Familiarity with EMI/EMC, vibration, and other environmental testing.
Experience with antenna ranges and anechoic chambers.
Familiarity with RF technologies (e.g., cellular, WiFi, SATCOM).
An understanding of programming languages (MATLAB, C/C++, LabVIEW, Qt, Python).
Familiarity with antennas, direction finding (DF) systems, phased array antennas, and digital beamforming.
Understanding of platform integration principles (power budgeting, rack design, environmental, and SWAP considerations).
