Senior Project Manager, Active & Sustainable Transportation
Parsons has been a leader in the planning, design and delivery of transportation infrastructure across the world for more than 75 years. Our team is focused on helping our provincial and municipal clients expand and improve their transportation systems through innovative solutions to their tough planning and design challenges. We are looking for a highly experienced project manager with strong client relationships to add to our Mobility Solutions team in the Greater Toronto Region. You will have the flexibility to work from an office in Toronto, Markham or Oakville and also part time from home.
Reports to: Director of Mobility Planning and Traffic Engineering
Overview: This position will play a pivotal role in developing and executing our projects with a focus on sustainable and active transportation planning, including Complete Streets, Multi-Modal Transportation, Active Transportation, and other forms and concepts of Sustainable Transportation. The role requires a deep understanding of Ontario's standards and regulations and offers a fantastic opportunity for someone who believes in the importance of active, multimodal, and sustainable transportation. You will work on a variety of sustainable transportation projects, including concept-level design for complete street reconfigurations, development of construction documents, and production of high-quality graphics, all aimed at making a positive impact on communities around the Greater Toronto Region and beyond.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage the active & sustainable transportation planning portfolio, including
- Coordinate with other technical disciplines across the organization to ensure integrated and comprehensive planning solutions.
- Manage complex studies involving complete streets and sustainable transportation including opportunities to transportation master plans and environmental assessments as needed.
- Efficiently manage day-to-day operations, including scheduling, assigning, and reviewing work to achieve project objectives and outcome measures.
- Assist in business development activities, including proposal preparation, project methodology development, work programs, schedules, and budgets.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation for clients and project management, ensuring technical excellence and quality assurance of project tasks and deliverables.
- Stay informed of trends, developments, and advancements in the active transportation planning field to maintain technical competency and provide state-of-the-art services and advice to clients.
- Lead design development on a variety of projects, including complete street preliminary design and surface transit projects.
- Prepare design concepts related to active transportation projects, streetscape design, civil design, and sustainable transportation design.
- Communicate with internal and external clients, and present at technical and business development events.
- Contribute to research, analysis, and studies to examine the urban, transportation, and policy contexts of projects.
- Perform other responsibilities as appropriate for the position.
Requirements:
- University degree in Planning, Transportation Planning/Engineering, or a related professional discipline; a relevant postgraduate degree is highly desirable.
- Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) and/or Registered Professional Planner (RPP) license in Ontario.
- Minimum of 15 years of transportation planning experience, including master planning and/or environmental assessments, with at least 5 years of successful project management experience.
- Good knowledge of how federal, provincial, and municipal design standards (e.g., Transportation Association of Canada, Ontario Traffic Manual) are applied at the conceptual and preliminary design levels.
- Experience in complete street and transit planning and design within urban and suburban environments.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple simultaneous projects involving cross-functional teams within budgetary and schedule constraints.
- Effective interpersonal skills and highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of the Planning Act, Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Process, Provincial policies, legislation, and regulations related to transportation/land use planning, and evolving industry trends.
- Experience writing and/or presenting white papers and providing expert-level presentations at conferences and events promoting sustainable infrastructure and active transportation.
- Membership in the Institute of Transportation Engineers, Canadian Institute of Planners, or other relevant professional organizations is desirable.
